After four years of selling records in the old green house at 519 N. Martin St., I have made the difficult decision to close Locked Groove Records đź’”
All my close friends I have told so far immediately ask “why!?”
It’s been a really hard conversation to have.
The prolonged construction in the Village has created significant challenges for my small business over the last year. Separately, the house itself needs (more) substantial repairs, this is in addition to a significant increase in rent. I have invested everything I have into Locked Groove Records but a lot more money is required to make sure this space is accessible, safe and welcoming. I do not have plans (or the means) to relocate.
While I am heartbroken to close my record store, especially so close to the reopening of Martin Street, I have to be realistic about what it takes to continue operating in this location.
Bad news aside, the last four years have been filled with rewarding collaborations, meaningful conversations, and countless discoveries. I’m proud of what I have accomplished, especially considering all the challenges along the way. I want to shift my focus to the positives.
From the bottom of my heart: thank YOU.
So many collectors have supported Locked Groove from the beginning. Your love for music, independent record stores, and physical media helped make so many of my dreams and aspirations come true over the last four years. I am incredibly grateful.
Much appreciation to my wonderful team over the years: Tobias! Cassidy Stigall, Fritz Wells, Stormy Cline, Lee Zane, and Conner Simpson.
Thank you to Seth at Elm Street for collaborating with me on multiple events and brewing the awesome batch of Groove Garden for Record Store Day 2026.
I've had the pleasure of working with the incredibly talented artist Maya Doss (BSU Class of 2025). She painted the front mural and designed much of the signage throughout the store. Over the years, Maya has also created many event flyers and has truly contributed to the identity of Locked Groove. Also, a huge shout-out to Stan (BSU Class of 2026). He has designed many flyers, and I am incredibly grateful for his creativity and reliability. I also want to mention and thank Ab, who worked on our very first signage in 2022, so glad I had the chance to work with you!
I'll definitely miss talking music with everyone that came to visit. Thanks for the great conversations and recommendations over the years. I truly enjoyed the time I was able to dedicate to digging for records, hosting listening events, and bringing live music into the shop.
What was your favorite record you found here? Which event did you attend?
I would love to hear your memories of Locked Groove.
