We love having our own beef!

It’s a small herd. We typically put one in the freezer each year for us. Our bull is a Limousin, and our cows are an assortment of beef breeds without horns.

We teach in-person classes about getting started in raising your own beef. We have an all-inclusive signature experience called Smart Chix: 3 days, 4 instructors, and 12 participants.

Fermented honey garlic combines the benefits of raw honey and garlic, both known for their medicinal properties. When fermented together, they form a probiotic-rich, immune-boosting remedy used traditionally for health and wellness.

Here are the top benefits of fermented honey garlic:

🧄🍯 1. Immune System Support
• Garlic contains allicin, a natural antimicrobial and antiviral compound.
• Raw honey has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
• Together, they help fight colds, flu, and infections.

🧄🍯 2. Natural Antibiotic
• Fermentation boosts the antimicrobial power of both ingredients.
• Can help combat sore throats, respiratory infections, or minor bacterial issues.

🧄🍯 3. Gut Health & Digestion
• Fermentation creates beneficial probiotics, which support the gut microbiome.
• Garlic promotes good digestion and acts as a prebiotic (feeds good gut bacteria).

🧄🍯 4. Anti-Inflammatory Effects
• Reduces inflammation in the body, which is linked to chronic disease.
• Helpful for people with arthritis or inflammatory conditions.

🧄🍯 5. Heart Health
• Garlic may help lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
• Honey can support healthy blood vessels and reduce oxidative stress.

🧄🍯 6. Antioxidant Power
• Both honey and garlic are rich in antioxidants, which fight free radicals and slow aging.

🧄🍯 7. Soothes Coughs and Sore Throats
• Honey coats the throat while garlic works to kill pathogens.
• Great for seasonal colds and flu symptoms.

🧄🍯 8. Supports Detoxification
• Garlic supports liver function and detox pathways.
• The natural enzymes and acids from fermentation assist in cleansing the body.

🧄🍯 9. Easy to Make & Store
• It’s shelf-stable, requires no refrigeration, and continues to ferment over time.
• Flavor mellows out: less sharp garlic, more sweet-savory syrup.

⚠️ Cautions
• Not recommended for children under 1 year (due to honey).
• Can interact with blood thinners or medications—consult your healthcare provider if you’re on meds.
• May cause digestive discomfort in large quantities for sensitive people.

This is us trying to be healthy at the grocery store. We also have a small garden, go to the farmers market, and buy directly from the Mennonite growers.

Whatever your homesteading journey looks like, that is A-OK! Don’t compare yourself to others.

We never miss an opportunity to use the dirt from one area to another. Having a skid steer can help make large jobs more manageable. We always buy used but well-maintained.
