Just in time for Mobile Tiki Week — vintage Trader Vic’s illustrative scarf. The iconic Trader Vic influenced most of the tiki culture today!

Trader Vic’s began in Oakland, California in 1934, when Victor “Trader Vic” Bergeron opened a little bar originally called Hinky D***s. He eventually transformed it into the tropical, over-the-top Trader Vic’s, helping pioneer the mid-century tiki craze. In 1944, Vic created what would become his most famous contribution to cocktail history: the Mai Tai. By the ’50s and ’60s, Trader Vic’s had expanded into glamorous hotels and cities around the world and became synonymous with tiki culture. It’s a mid-century icon now.

Along the way, Trader Vic’s produced all kinds of branded souvenirs and restaurant memorabilia—tiki mugs, cocktail glasses, menus, matchbooks, swizzle sticks, postcards, clothing and more—which are now collected as pieces of mid-century Polynesian-pop history.

There is still 25 Trader Vic’s you can visit today but you won’t find this scarf at any of them!
