🌈 SNACK TIME… but make it COLORFUL 🌈

Look at all of this goodness 😍

We let Xander pick his choice of fruits or veggies when we go to the store. If he’s curious — we try it. That’s how kumquats ended up in our kitchen this week.

And let me tell you…

🍊 KUMQUATS 🍊
We have NEVER had them before.

Fun facts first:

• You eat the WHOLE thing — peel and all.
• The peel is sweet.
• The inside is tart.
• They’re technically a citrus fruit (tiny but mighty).
• They’re packed with vitamin C and fiber.

My personal review?

Pros:
✔ Very citrusy
✔ Super cute
✔ Fun little pop of flavor

Cons:
❌ SEEDS.
❌ SO. MANY. SEEDS.
I was not emotionally prepared for that many seeds 😂

But honestly? I love letting him explore new foods. Curiosity around real food matters.

Now let’s talk about the rest of this rainbow:

❤️ Raspberries — tiny fiber powerhouses. One of the highest fiber fruits you can eat. Also loaded with antioxidants.

🫐 Blueberries — brain food. Packed with anthocyanins (the deep blue pigment) that support memory and overall wellness.

🍓 Strawberries — high in vitamin C (more than an orange per serving!). Naturally sweet and easy for littles to love.

🥝 Kiwi — don’t sleep on kiwi. High in vitamin C, potassium, and digestive enzymes. And that green? Gorgeous.

This is what snack time looks like here. Simple. Bright. Real.

We’re not perfect. We’re just intentional. 80/20 always. Try new things. Laugh at the seeds. Keep it colorful.

🍲 FLU BUSTER CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP 🍲
(From-Scratch Bone Broth + Real Life)

I don’t share many recipes.

But I’m going to start.

People ask us all the time what we actually eat at home… and the truth is, we are very much an ingredient household. We follow an 80/20 lifestyle. We are not perfect. We do not obsess. But we do have some BIG no-no’s that just never come through our doors. Food dye, HFCS, Seed Oils, Carrageenan, Soy, Conventional wheat products, artificial and natural "flavors"....... those are the big ones.

We really try to make our own food and do the best we can within our means and our sanity levels.

Any recipe I share — please know you can use non-organic, non-grassfed, whatever you have access to. Fresh is best. Do what works for your family. For us, we focus on avoiding as many chemicals as possible in the food we create at home. We grow food, utilize local farmers, co-ops, and organic groceries from a few stores around the metro.

That’s it. No perfection. Just intention.

This week everyone we have been around has been sick… so I made what I call our Flu Buster.

🌿 FROM-SCRATCH CHICKEN BONE BROTH

• 6 large organic chicken legs
• 4 chicken feet
• 3 tablespoons organic apple cider vinegar
• 1 tablespoon Celtic sea salt
• 1 large carrot
• Top of a large leek
• Filtered water to cover

Add everything to a pressure cooker and cook on high for 4 hours.

If you have time, slow cook on low for about 36 hours for a deeper broth.

I didn’t have any broth ready and wanted it now… so I rushed it. If 4 hours counts as rushing. 🤔

Strain the broth and pull the meat from the legs. Set the meat aside for the soup.

🌿 FLU BUSTER CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP

In a large pot:

• 1 tablespoon grass-fed butter
• 3 carrots, chopped
• White part of a large leek

Sauté about 8 minutes.

Add:
• 4 cloves garlic (grated)
• 2 one-inch pieces fresh turmeric (grated)
• Celtic sea salt
• ½ teaspoon fresh cracked black pepper
• 1 teaspoon thyme
• 1 teaspoon oregano
• 1 teaspoon rosemary

Let it get fragrant and cozy.

Add the shredded chicken from the broth.

Pour in:
• 8 cups bone broth
• 4 cups filtered water

Bring to a boil for about 10 minutes.

Add noodles of choice. I used organic star noodles made with wheat from Italy. We try to use grains grown without glyphosates — more on that another time.

Cook until tender.

All 3 of us got a bowl and I had enough to put away 5 quart mason jars.

Nothing fancy. Just real food made from real ingredients.
