Because I'm seldom on Facebook these days, I see some notices of upcoming ReBirthdays -- and send wishes -- but I miss others. For those of you who happened to see a notice of my ReBirthday and who sent wishes, many thanx and blessings! For those of you who didn't, I understand. With the countless daily demands on our time, it's easy to end up failing to follow through on all of the things we intend to do.

The Florida Gourd Society’s 2024 festival goes Steampunk

If you thought of gourds as being used only for making dippers or as homes for purple martins, birds that gobble up insects that can devastate farmers’ crops, prepare to be amazed at the possibilities during the Florida Gourd Festival, February 23 – 25 at the Azan Shriners Center:1591 W. Eau Gallie Blvd., Melbourne (Florida).
The event, whose theme is “Steampunk Gourds,” will feature gourd artisans from around the nation who will be displaying, and selling, a wide range of gourd-based art, including figurines, bowls, dolls, animals, musical instruments, whimsical figures, and assorted other creations. Also on hand will be gourd growers, vendors of gourd-crafting tools and other supplies, and a gourd historian with his fabulous display of gourd artifacts from around the world, and food.
You might even want to take a class or two to learn how to make your own basket, figurine, bowl, musical instrument, or other item from gourds. If so, gourd artisans will be on hand to teach you how to do so. But you need to hurry because online registration (at www.flgourdsoc.org) ends on February 1; however, if you miss the deadline, you still might be in luck as onsite registration takes place on February 23 - 25. Such a variety of offerings in one place is hard to beat, so come on out. Except for the classes, it’s absolutely free!
