Look. This book came out on my birthday, and do I consider its existence a birthday present just for me? Yes. Obviously. Anna McCallie's debut novel is so beautiful that it's going to make her an auto-buy author for me. Such smart, witty banter and the yearniest yearning to ever yearn!

(CW: Infidelity by the main couple, but handled with incredible nuance and depth)

A q***r, found-family paranormal set in Singapore that’s the start of a new series but is also a complete story arc? Sign me up! It’s a loving ode to underfunded and overworked small-g government employees who are trying their best to help their local communities, despite endless layers of bureaucracy and red tape, not to mention the difficulties of buy-in. Also there’s a ghost cat. It’s fun and nerdy, and I can’t wait for the next one!
