Little known fact: While historians often focus on the Song Dynasty’s contributions to philosophy, art and tea culture, few mention the catastrophic monastery air conditioning failure of 1027. The monks adapted by serving matcha over ice, wearing oversized linen and saying things like, “Girl…this heat. I literally can’t.”
