New garden discovery: Cucamelons!🍉🥒
A friend just dropped two cucamelon plants, a plant I've never heard of before. Tiny watermelon look-likes that apparently taste like cucumber - with a hint of lime. I'm in!

Yup, was feeling pretty good about getting a row w**ded in the garden ... and then I looked across the road and saw the neighbors putting up hay with a team of horses. Suddenly, my garden work didnt seem quite so impressive.
There's something special about watching work done the old fashioned way - horses pulling, families working together - in much the same way it was done generations ago.
Its a reminder that hard work comes in many forms ... and some folks set the bar pretty high.

We opened the hives today to check on the girls and discovered many bees with pollen on their legs. 🌼🐝
Honey bees have "pollen baskets" on their back legs so they can bring the flower pollen they collected back to the hive to feed the brood.
This pollen is one reason many people turn to local honey during allergy season, exposing themselves to small amounts of the pollens to which they are allergic. Isn't nature fascinating!

Have you ever met royalty???

One of our new queens has officially moved in and she’s already busy building up the hive. We purchased a marked queen for this hive - meaning she has a bit of white marker or paint on her so we can easily identify her.

The second photo shows uncapped brood — baby bees in their larva stage before the cells are sealed over.

A healthy brood pattern is one of the best signs that a hive is thriving and growing. Which is good news for the bees … and for everyone who enjoys flowers, gardens, and local honey. 🍯

The queen may rule the hive, but the worker bees are the ones keeping this tiny buzzing kingdom alive.

Current status: aggressively sniffing the air like Mickey, floating toward these sourdough cinnamon rolls.
The entire house smells like cinnamon, butter and sugar. Reminding myself to make good choices and not eat them all!
Cinnamon rolls and chocolate chip cookies are fresh out of the oven. Get here early. They go fast!
