Some art stays with you long after you've seen it.
I recently had the opportunity to see a small section of the AIDS Memorial Quilt when it was exhibited at the Scott Galvin Community Center in North Miami, Florida.
As a mosaic artist, I couldn't help noticing something familiar. Each panel tells one person's story, but together they become something much bigger...a reminder of how art can preserve memories, honor lives, and bring people together.
The speaker in the video is my brother, Councilman Scott Galvin, former North Miami Councilman and the person for whom the community center was named.
Standing in front of the quilt reminded me that meaningful art isn't always about complexity. Sometimes its greatest strength is simply the story it tells.
Have you ever experienced a piece of art that stayed with you?
