Orange County Animal Services—RFQ

Finalist Design Stipend: $1,500

Installation: July 2027

Orange County Arts & Cultural Affairs is seeking applications from individual artists or artist teams to develop artwork for the new Orange County Animal Services facility. This modern, family-oriented facility aims to foster a welcoming environment dedicated to the humane treatment, respect, and protection of all animals. It serves as a safe and compassionate space where displaced animals can find their lifelong homes.

The new Orange County Animal Services facility will feature a two-story design. The first floor will include dog kennels and designated indoor and outdoor areas for pet interactions. The second floor will be dedicated to feline care and housing. Art should be visually engaging, lively, positive, playful, and suitable for children of all ages, as well as their pets.

Possibilities for Public Art include, but are not limited to:
Mural
Mosaic
Sculpture
Kinetic Sculpture
Suspended 3D Art (load specification below)
Artwork to guide feline enthusiasts toward the second level

Application Requirements:
- Experience with public art projects with a similar budget is not required but helpful.
- Professional resume (teams must submit resumes for each member).
- Letter of interest, outlining interest in the project and a preliminary statement of approach.
- A minimum of one (1) image is required, and the maximum is 5. Images of finished works or conceptual drawings can be submitted. If images submitted are not of a completed public artwork, provide additional information to assure the Selection - Panel of ability to realize a public art project and that it will be completed and installed as designed.
