GREAT MEXIKOSHER MEMORIES

It is a thrilling moment in the career of every chef when Florence Fabricant announces your new restaurant in the pages of the The New York Times! FloFab announced the opening of Mexikosher NYC in August of 2016, and we have been busy since the moment that we opened our doors for service. All future Mexikosher concepts will be located in the New York metropolitan area. Please join us!

GREAT MEXIKOSHER MEMORIES

You only need type in the letters "K-A-T-S" on the Jewish Journal website to discover the seven pages of posts that chronicled our extraordinary run in Los Angeles. (Maybe it could have been eight pages for eight years, but we're not counting...)

Journalist Rob Eshman has been a dear friend and supporter of Mexikosher since our earliest days. He understood what we were working very hard to achieve, long before we achieved it. The Journal has been a true blessing to us, and we are forever grateful for their patronage and support. And we did our best to make Los Angeles proud on Chopped (SPOILER: KATSUJI WON!!! And he still talks about it...all the time ... Oy.)

Katsuji Tanabe is the onion of kosher chefs-- every time you think you've figured him out, you find there;'s a whole other layer. Tonight Katsuji h

GREAT MEXIKOSHER MEMORIES

We really do have the best friends ever.

LA's acclaimed Mexican food expert (and now published author: https://www.prospectparkbooks.com/portfolio-item/la-mexicano/0) Bill Esparza arrived for a preview taste of the Mexikosher taco during our first week of business, and we are humbled to now think of him as a dear friend and mentor. He traveled this journey with us, he grew as we grew, and we are privileged to have enjoyed his support and his friendship throughout the years. Thank You, Bill.

GREAT MEXIKOSHER MEMORIES

Our first announcement on Eater LA (was kinda tiny) .... But the ever wise editors at Eater have always been kind, and generous, and fair in their coverage and we are sincerely thankful. Eater editor Kat Odell wrote our first post and Eater editor Farley Elliott wrote our final media post today. We are forever grateful.

WEST LA— For those keeping kosher, take note of the recently opened MexiKosher. Chef Katsuji Tanabe, who has worked at both the shuttered Bastide and Mastro’s, launched LA's first Kosher-Mexican...

GREAT MEXIKOSHER MEMORIES

"My name is Katsuji Tanabe and I sell tacos in Beverly Hills."

Annnnnnd with that, there was Top Chef Boston. And then Top Chef Mexico. And then again Top Chef Charleston. Katsuji was a recurring fan favorite, but we don't recall who won any of these competitions. Also, Kosher chefs are not practiced at the fine art of opening shellfish. Just sayin...

Bravo, which had its crew here in May and June, reveals its list of contestants Wednesday. The one local chef on the roster is Stacy Cogswell, 33, the executive chef at the Regal Beagle in Coolidge Corner.

GREAT MEXIKOSHER MEMORIES

Just out of the sight of our guests at Mexikosher, there lived a tiny shrine for eight years. There were candles and assorted accoutrement. And there was a picture of the Los Angeles Times restaurant critic, Jonathan Gold. And then on July 11, 2017 Mr. Gold wrote a lovely post that will forever live in Katsuji's heart! All we can remember is that he said "The guacamole is quite good." And with that, the little shrine had done its work and we could all die happy. Thank you, Mister Gold!
