Finally back on track for a chill day with NCRC at Sonoma after a few months away. Both cars ran well and I even managed some to put down some decent lap times in the afternoon; excited to come back for a full race weekend soon!

I had a blast testing a Spec Racer Ford at the Buttonwillow Circuit last weekend! I only ran Friday and Saturday but made a lot of good progress on my laptime Friday, and had a good first half the race Saturday keeping a few cars behind me before spinning out on lap 7.

I made it for the inaugural race weekend at the new Buttonwillow Circuit track! Had a blast learning the new track, I can't wait to come back and refine it a bit.

A week ago I graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Biology from Caltech. It's taken a lot of late nights to balance schoolwork, research, and racing but I am so thankful to my parents and everyone who has supported me these past few years. Onto the next adventure!

Auto Club was a month ago now but remains one of the most wild race weekends I've ever had, even if I only raced for 1 day.
That Friday, I came straight from moving out of my dorm room in the Pasadena heat to unloading the our cars at the track, setting the tone for the weekend.
On Saturday, I did both sprint races and the endurance race, meaning I was in my car almost all day, with maybe an hour between sessions if I was lucky, all in the heat. Warmups proved I needed some major suspension adjustment or deal with a terrifying amount of understeer, and qualifying led to my back hood blown clean off onto the track. The race started well and I was nose to nose with a few E30s, when I notice my back panel flopping again, held on by one bolt this time. I had to slow down for the rest of the lap to keep it attached before my mom removed it and I was off, without a panel.
For the enduro I opted to keep the panel off (meaning a faster refueling too :)), and I was off. With no shade in the car it was hot and even the air ripping by me couldn't cool me down. Other than a large rock hitting my helmet, the first hour and a half were uneventful, at least until my rear axle snapped. I thought I had a spare, but turned out it was for the other side.
The true plot twist of the weekend was being allowed to take out my dads E30 in the enduro after my car broke, despite it not being registered. That ended with flames, but I already wrote about that one :)

First things first: this a picture of the clutch we took out of my dad's car after I drove it for an hour and a half. IT WAS ON FIRE. While I was driving :)
The last race I did was A LOT. I'll make another post about the time in my roadster, but this post is dedicated to my dad's "new" SE30, which I was allowed to take out for the endurance race after my car broke an axle.
So there I was, in the middle of a 4 hour race, strapped into a car I've never driven before and that has had one day back on track after 5 years of storage. Slightly terrifying. First few laps were slow as hell, could figure out how to shift (can barely reach the clutch), so many blindspots, so many new things to process.
Then I refocused and ran a good race, put out 2:04 and 2:05 lap times consistently, which is near the front of the SE30 field, which shocked me but I couldn't be happier.
Then for the photo...an hour and a half into driving this car a huge puff of smoke came up and I could shift into any gears, so I cruised in neutral around the oval at 40 mph before I could pull off and get towed in. My dad told me the clutch was failing, turns out it had failed! Caught fire and ended up looking like that when we pulled it out
