Our nation is in a literacy crisis! More than half of all 4th graders in the US are reading BELOW grade level… Why? That is when parents typically stop reading to their children :( I hope to read to my children until they have a home of their own if they will let me. I hope that one day we can take turns reading aloud as a family. Now I have the tools to help children Love Books and Love Reading!
To see a light shine in a child who is reading is so inspiring and makes me so happy. My own children are not quite readers yet, but they thoroughly enjoy being read to. I love books! I used to read everything I could get my hands on as a child, but I know not everyone is like me! Even my younger brothers, who grew up in the same house, with the same book-loving mom as me, did not even like to read… I tried to encourage them! I did not have the tools to succeed. One thing is certain, there first has to be a spark of curiosity and these books can definitely light that spark! There is a quote that I have seen a lot since joining Usborne Books & More "Everyone is a reader… Some just haven't discovered their favorite book yet." I'm making it my mission to help those kids find at least one of their favorites! I could never choose just one ;)
