🇺🇸 Memorial Day 🇺🇸
Did you know.......
"Decoration Day" began after the Civil War as a day to honor fallen soldiers. After the Civil War ended in 1865, communities across the United States started holding springtime tributes where people decorated the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers. These ceremonies were often called “Decoration Day.”
Over time it became a national day of remembrance for all military members who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
Key moments in its history:
🎖1860s: Local “Decoration Day” ceremonies begin after the Civil War
🎖1868: General Logan establishes a national observance on May 30
🎖World War I era: Holiday broadens to honor all fallen U.S. service members
🎖1971: Memorial Day becomes an official federal holiday observed on the last Monday in May
We’re grateful for those heroes and for the families who carry their memory every day.
We remember and honor the brave men and women who served and gave everything for our country, for their loved ones, and for people they never even met (true sacrifice). Because of their sacrifice, we are blessed with the freedoms we enjoy every day.
Not just this weekend, but every day, may we never forget that freedom is not free. 🇺🇸
From all of us at Chenez’s Gourmet Popcorn — thank you to our fallen heroes. 🇺🇸
Both our Lockport and Olcott shops are open today if you’re out and about enjoying the holiday weekend.
