Looking for a novel that gives some insights and warnings about the things we’re seeing as history repeats? Although published in 2004 as a cautionary tale, it has never been more relevant than it is now.

The Plot Against America imagines an alternate 1940s United States in which aviator Charles Lindbergh defeats FDR in the presidential election and steers the country toward fascism and antisemitism. Told through the eyes of a Jewish family in Newark, the novel explores the creeping impact of bigotry and political compromise on everyday life and communal identity, and will leave you with a feeling of reflection, familiarity and maybe hope.

And I highly recommend the HBO limited series, which is an excellent adaptation of the book.

I love this, and it feels true. Perhaps in a used book, you might be able to connect with the universal human experience of relating to or being moved by the same words that the last person or the person who turned those pages before them also experienced. ❤️
