Todd and I are working all day today! Come see us!! 🥰

You know... there are days when I miss our "old" store filled with all the antiques and decor pieces. But then, days like today are exactly why we made the change to what we are now. The store has been filled with the joyful sounds of kids coming in with their parents, just going "mom, dad, look at this!!" It gives me the ability to be a kid all over again, buying fun things that make most everyone smile, laugh and feel like a kid themselves again. 💕

Of course, there's gifts for people of every age here. But, I will never get tired of hearing the kids so excited! And the parents saying we didn't know you had stuff for kids here. :)

I love that the Wisconsin Historical Society shared her story and acknowledges this day! 🔮

Psychic Day is held on the first Sunday in August to raise awareness for the interesting powers of people who “know” things that they could not know in any other way.

Mary Hayes Chynoweth was a psychic, healer and spiritual teacher who impacted Wisconsin with her mystical ways.

Born in 1825 in upstate New York, she moved with her parents Abraham and Miriam Folsom to Waterloo, Wisconsin, in 1850, where she worked as a schoolteacher. In 1853 she experienced a powerful vision, after which she was observed to speak in tongues, heal the sick through laying on of hands, and perform other apparently supernormal actions. She became a highly successful healer and teacher, whose admirers included some of Wisconsin's leading political and intellectual figures. In 1854 she married Anson B Hayes, a Waterloo farmer, and after his death married an attorney (and her patient) Thomas Chynoweth, who died shortly after. In 1883 she claimed that spiritual guidance led her to discover the sites of the Ashland and Germania iron mines in the Gogebic Range, which became the source of her family's fortune and the origin of the town of Hurley. The Germania mine opened in 1885 and was the first ore shipped from the port of Ashland. It had extracted a total of 470,269 tons of iron ore when it closed in 1912.

In 1887 she moved with her family and followers to a colony named Edenvale, in San Jose, Cal. She erected a 41,000 sq. ft. mansion there and for nearly two more decades continued to treat the sick free of charge, until her death at the age of 80.

The Iron County Wisconsin Historical Society Museum is a great place to visit to learn about the early days of mining in Hurley. Plan a visit sometime soon!
