🐟 I'm piggybacking off of 's tidbit about how you can phone a friend when you get stuck in your creative process. And I'm going to add that taking a class where you're following along with someone else or working on a project gets you unstuck, too.

🐟 We've been out in Oregon teaching (cue the pretty picture when our lovely hosts took us to the coast), and it was SO GOOD. We helped our quilters with their projects, helped them troubleshoot color selection and placement, and hopefully gave them new ideas for their next sew session.

🐟 So yes, if you're feeling general quilt-stuckness jump into a class. Because as much as we quilt and work on our own, sometimes having someone else working in the same project as you at the same time helps.

💖 If you're working on something creative and it starts to feel uncomfortable, have you ever stopped just to see what part of what you were doing was making you uncomfy?

💖 We chatted more with about how there can be parts of the creative process that give you pause. She recommends having someone you can call or meet up with and go "hey this isn't turning out right". It might help you figure out what you need to do to change your outcome.

💖 Two creative heads are better than one.

🌟 We're out in Oregon meeting people and showing off quilts and teaching and we even went to quilt shops (shocking, I know) yesterday.

🌟 It's been a very creative couple of days for 30 Days of Dopamine.

🌟 Pet your fabric, daydream your next project, talk to your friends about the finer points of fussy cutting. Quilty friends are the best.

💖 is back for another year of 30 Days of Dopamine! Every year she gives us such good advice and usable info, and this year is no different.

💖 This year we're talking with Jenni about that point in the creative process that the alarm bells start ringing and you want to stop because it feels uncomfortable. Being creative and trying something isn't always easy. How do you know when to push through or to stop?

🌻 It's hard to get into that creative headspace if your nervous system feels like you're being chased by a lion.

🌻 When you're in fight or flight mode, it's hard for your body and brain to focus. Certainly hard to calm regulate your nervous system enough to feel safe to get into the creative headspace. But it's the chicken and the egg, I know I'll feel better if I do my creative thing but I can't do my creative thing because I'm not feeling good. Whatever you do, don't beat yourself up over it. That's not going to make your mental metaphorical lion back off.

🌻 Thank you again to Erin from for chatting with us and sharing for 30 Days of Dopamine! Everyone go watch the full video on YouTube.

🪿 I was typing out my post about how I've been productive today and you just can't see it because it's not very exciting and I have a creative job and then I stopped. Did you catch what I said at first?

🪿 I said I was productive. I was ready to hold myself accountable and tell you that I showed up today for our challenge. But creativity and productivity aren't the same, and you can have a creative day that doesn't produce anything and a productive day that isn't creative.

🪿 If you need me I'll be sitting in my feelings and trying to untangle how productivity versus creativity.

⛈️ I love 's tidbit about putting on nature shows or sounds while she works on a project to help regulate her nervous system. As someone who is currently covered in bug bites from getting plants in planters earlier this week, I'm also in the "ew outside" camp.

⛈️ And for me, another reason I like this idea of putting on nature sounds while you sew is that I'm someone that will get distracted or completely involved in whatever TV show or music is on. So nature sounds might be a way to have sound without getting sidetracked.

⛈️ It was very nice of the weather to cooperate so you can have 40 seconds of uninterrupted rain. Something to sew by.

🌳 I'm smooshing together two different jelly rolls (Industrial Imprints by Wishwell and Languid by ) and was really looking forward to some nice color order sorting time.

🌳 But I have a cat.

🌳 My color-centered creative activity turned into a cat-centered creative activity. Whachagonnado?

🌻 Erin from had so many good tidbits when we talked about creativity and how being creative helps her. If you're familiar with Spoon Theory, sometimes you don't have any spoons left to make what you had planned.

🌻 But there's also balancing the knowledge that doing your particular craft helps regulate your nervous system. It can help you feel better. So when you have a project in front of you, ask yourself this:

🌻 Do I create energy for the project, or does the project create energy for me?

🌻 My creative act for the day was putting the flowers together in my planters. I have some new plants I'm trying instead of doing the same thing. That's my first little experiment for June.

🌻 Getting the plants in the ground/pots was a to-do list thing. But picking them out and imagining them together and planning color combinations and getting them all arranged was a creativity thing.

🌻 When you're tallying up your creative efforts over this month, don't forget to give yourself credit for the little things. Like planting the summer flowers.
