Happy Map Monday from my current read!

Under the Oak Tree Vol.3 is probably my favorite of the series so far. I feel like we are really reaching the depths of the characters and seeing why they act the way they do toward each other. Not to mention finally getting to see the wider world and politics not just the smaller life they lead

The City of brass, or the Daevabad Trilogy

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Reading this series reccomended by book club was the absolute best decision. I joined them in reading the last two books and it was so much fun to chat about it all with them. Some say there isn’t enough kissing in these books 👀👀

However, there was not a single complaint about the magic, world building, character arcs, fantasy creatures, epic battles, or how it all ended. For a group of 12+ people that’s a big deal.

These books are like nothing else out there. I know it sounds like a tag line, but it’s the truth. No other story is in this kind of world with this amount of depth and action. I loved and hated each character in turn, the more I learned back stories the more complex everything became. Then add in the moral questions of how do you do what is right when it will still cause hurt to others? I’m sold.

If you like fantasy and feel like everything has started to feel the same, this series is one you need.

Lagg Bookstore is the happiest place. The staff are some of the coolest people I can think of and all of them have recommended a good book or two for me.

This reel doesn’t even mention the great book clubs, events, and community they have built. If you are looking to buy local this is the place to go.

A Main Character with secrets upon secrets? I’m in.

It is rare to read a book where you don’t know the main characters story, their life, what has lead them to where they are. Kvothe has “retired” from what we can’t be completely sure. A Chronicler has found him in an out of the way Inn and convinces this retired man of legend to share his story. Secrets upon secrets build and you find out more and more of who this man is. However, even with so many secrets you can’t help but root for Kvothe.

The magic system is interesting and fun, the world building is easy to pick up on and easy to imagine for yourself. The time jump from past to present is really easy to follow and both timelines have enough happening to keep you interested and asking questions.

The way it ends had me so excited for the next book, but be warned it’s been over a decade and still no book 3. A small game of thrones situation over here.

Want a book that sticks with you? Here you go!

Lately I have been struggling with reading high fantasy or epic tales. My brain can’t seem to handle the complexity of world building at the moment. This book? Does it so well I was interested. I was asking questions, I wanted and needed to know more about Vis.

James Islington does an amazing job of world building while story telling so it comes slowly, but in a way that makes sense. I love his characters, and the backstory of our main character has all my favorite troupes.

I’ve stated reading the second book which starts right where this one leaves off and I am so glad there is no time jump.
