Howdy Ya'll,
The Stitching Station was established in 1980 in my home in Garden Grove, California. I'm asked a lot about our name, because as you will see--there is not nearly as much Stitching going on as there used to be. There were Dolls (still our biggest seller), Pillows and fabric book covers containing stationary. When trying to decide on a name for the business; we had stitching and stati
onary so put it together and you have,
THE STITCHING STATION. The business has grown from one small sewing room in my home and a VW bus; to a sewing room plus a wood shop, a large storage unit, an 18-foot trailer and a full-sized pickup truck. The product has changed as well. As the market changed and the imports starting to flood the retail market, we knew we would have to 'step it up', in order to stay in business with all hand made products. I stepped away from the sewing machine and had to learn my way around a drill, a nail gun, a scroll saw, a ban saw, jig saw, table saw, a circler saw and a sander. So from strings to sawdust I went--and from that, so much has come! I quickly learned the price of lumber is just as costly as fabric, yet lumber can be found in dumpster's, trash cans, and your friend's back yards. We had to become green without even trying. We use old window shutters and cabinet doors and don't take your boots off around me or they will end up on a sign held by a nail gun! Although, Garden Grove is located in what most would call THE CITY; we are all COUNTRY at heart. The Stitching Station has been down quite a few tracks in order to bring hand made designs to our customers. It seems that now we will take a new ride through the internet and see where it takes us. The Stitching Station has and still is fueled by family and friends with unbelievable dedication and teamwork. That is what makes the Stitching Station so unique. Thanks for riding the tracks with us. We look forward to conducting business with you. Your Conductor,
Claudia
