Memories of the little old country store
Memories of the little old country store, in a little Latham, Ohio town. The old store that no one wants to see torn down. The memories of the past, the memories that will always last.
The store was called Long’s General Store, but who called it by name? Junior Long is the one who kept the old store the same.
Remember the old garage hooked on the store where Junior changed tires and oil. People just doesn’t do that anymore at little country stores. But what is country? No one seems to know anymore. They just want to go with the flow.
Just think back to Latham at the store on Saturday night—the squealing of tires and sometimes a fight. But I guess that was ok. Junior and Rosilee kept their sanity and made it through the years alright.
The store carried many things, such as hardware, feed, groceries, auto parts, gas, oil, 50 lbs. of taters, 25 lbs. of corn meal, 25 lbs. of flour, 25 lbs. of sugar, 25 lbs. of beans, 30 lbs. of lard, and a slab of jowl bacon, too. But now what is a poor person left to do? No more flowered plastic curtains, wallpaper or rugs for the floor, because the little country store won’t be there anymore.
I have to say the drunks liked the old store too- the beer and wine they thought made them feel so fine. But we know things change with time. We will just remember the good memories of the little country store and the two people who made it that way.
Junior and Rosilee worked very hard. They didn’t have time for a computer or Facebook games to play. Latham topix was the bench in front of the store. People will miss sitting in front of the little country store where lots of gossip and big tales was told. But the memories we will always hold. The memories might make you laugh. They might make you shed tears. So, we pray God will bless Junior and Rosilee for all the memories and all the years. In our hearts they will always be so dear.
So, Junior and Rosilee, as you look at the new store that looks to be red, white and blue, don’t even let it bother you, because the old store will be the one that holds the memories for me.
The memories that last will be the memories of the past.
God bless you both!
