MATHIAS KISS x FLAGS FOR FUTURE by UTÖPIA FLAGS

Parisian artist & designer Mathias Kiss’s artistic practice is situated around reflection on and questions about past and future systems of housing design. His work is built around timeless stylistic references and experimentation, effortlessly combining traditional craft and with contemporary experimentation and materials. Since 2009, he’s been designing sculptural objects that are based on these codes of living and habitation. Related art objects and in-situ installations that Kiss produces explore larger environments and our perception of time and space. His Froissé Mirror confronts these ideas most literally—an intricate fold-and- crease system that is infinitely multiplied given the reflections of the mirrored surfaces.

ANDRÉ SARAIVA X FLAGS FOR FUTURE

Before he began exhibiting his work in galleries, André Saraiva was known as Monsieur A in graffiti communities. Saraiva was active in the early Parisian graffiti movement, alongside Space Invader and Zevs. He became identified with his iconic, cartoonish character: a round-headed figure with long limbs and a circle and a cross for eyes—a subject that recurred in Saraiva’s early canvas paintings. In the 2000s, Saraiva began a performative project called “Love Graffiti” in which he would spray paint the name of someone’s lover at an address of his or her choosing. His later works continued to employ line, text, and clean-edged geometry. In 2012, he created a large-scale installation titled Andrépolis, resembling a city based on Paris and New York in miniature scale with neon lighting.

We’re continuing to showcase artists participating in our FLAGS FOR FUTURE project. The project brings together artists of different disciplines from around the world, each contributing a unique design that is printed on flags produced from upcycled waste from the oceans.

Frank Perrin is a French artist based in Paris who has spent the last ten years exploring the notion of Postcapitalism and compiling a compendium of our contemporary obsessions. From Joggers, and Yachts to Fashion Shows, Postcapitalism is a metaphysical flipbook of the fundamental ideas of our era, where each photography becomes a new landscape of the unconscious and desires of today. Frank Perrin was formerly a philosophy teacher and an art critic. He started the photographic series of the Joggers in 1998 and the Fashion Shows in 2003. After founding the art review “Bloc Notes” in the early 1990s he began taking photographs. He is also the founding director
of Crash magazine.

Krista Kim is a contemporary artist and founder of the Techism movement since 2014, promoting the confluence of art and technology, and technological innovation as a medium to further the development of digital humanism. She believes that artists must participate at the vanguard of technological innovation in order to contribute to the
creation of future culture during this pivotal period of technological innovation, adaptation, and disruption. In her Digital Consciousness series, Krista gathers digital images of LED lights to digitally paint and manipulate them using multiple software to create her artwork, a technique that she has developed and has been using since 2012.
