ABOUT THE BOOK:
Aliens have arrived... and this isn't the first time.

When expert Navy linguist and cryptographer Charlie Cutter is recruited into a shadowy wing of the NCIS, she's tasked with unravelling a mysterious ancient text that has puzzled researchers for centuries. Charlie isn't eager to revisit her previous failures... but when she discovers the same puzzling language in top-secret photographs, she finds herself roped into a job that could make or break her young career.

After a strange pod crashes to Earth during a violent storm, Charlie and her small team uncover an incredible truth: aliens have landed on Earth - and not for the first time. Catapulted into a thrilling mystery that will carry them from the political swamps of D.C. to the scorching Las Vegas desert, Charlie must race against time to crack the code and save humanity from a possible alien invasion.

Surrounded by a web of secrets and lies, Charlie struggles to track down the origin of the pods - and unmask the hidden motives of their extraterrestrial visitors. The mystery stretches back centuries... and it leads Charlie to a shocking revelation that will change everything.

Hello! I’m Jesi, the owner of Indie Darling Bookstore. I realized that I’ve introduced every other staff member, but have yet to tell you a little about myself.

I moved to Lander in 2008 as a young adult to attend Central Wyoming College. I spent most of my upbringing as an Army kid moving around North Carolina, Germany, Kentucky, and Florida. When I moved to Wyoming, I was mostly seeking mountains, but I didn’t expect to find the first place that felt like home.

I’ve had at least 3 going away parties since arriving, but no matter where my life led me, I’ve been drawn back to this small, beautiful town. My last foray into the unknown outside of WY was going to a trade school and becoming a certified Marine Systems Technician and working in the mechanical department at a boatyard in Maine. I loved the work and learning new things daily, but there was also something missing from it. I found myself craving more purpose. My career up to this point has included education, technical skills, office administration, event planning, and creative works, so I wanted to see how I could combine some of those skills in a way that supports community development. On my long drive back to Wyoming in 2023, the dream for Indie Darling Bookstore was born.

Indie Darling was developed with the goals of fostering curiosity, creativity, and connection. And as an avid, lifelong reader, it is also a personal joy to be surrounded by so many varied stories and ideas.

I love the bookish team we’ve created (shoutout to Sam, Clark, Megan, Tehn, & Justin!), the partnerships we’ve developed (Annelise and Blue & White Tea Co. are incredible!), and the people who show up to support our little store (special thanks to all our book club participants!). This space is so special and means the world to me.

I am so grateful to have this space on Main Street, and want to personally thank you all for being part of it!

Stop by Indie Darling Bookstore during the CB&T Art Crawl on July 9th as part of the International Climbers' Festival to meet author, climber, and restaurateur Melissa Strong. She will be out front of the store from 4-8 PM talking about and signing copies of her book, Climbing Through.

In Climbing Through, the author unveils her remarkable journey of survival and resilience in the face of mortality after being horrifically injured by electricity.

Transporting readers back to her early days in New England, Strong vividly recounts her transformation from a self-described “C” student in gym class to a sponsored rock climber. She dismantles conventional expectations, forging a distinctive path that culminates in the realization of her own restaurant venture.

Navigating her uncertainties about parenthood and grappling with the challenges of infertility, Strong rebounds toward her dreams and weaves them into tangible aspirations. The vision of her restaurant takes shape, but in a fateful twist, a near-fatal encounter with a powerful electric current during the renovation process leaves her confronting the stark reality of her altered hands, once the lifeblood of her livelihood and rock-climbing passion. As she navigates the complex realm of medical intervention, enduring multiple surgeries and an arduous recovery, she discovers within herself an indomitable spirit that propels her through adversity.

Climbing Through is a poignant chronicle of unwavering fortitude, an inspiring testament to the triumph of the human spirit over life’s most daunting challenges.

The CB&T Art Crawl is an annual street-fair-style art market that helps kick off the International Climbers’ Festival. It brings together creative climbers, small businesses, and local artists to share and sell their work.

We hope to see you there!

Meet Tehn, another of our booksellers!

Tehn is originally from Atlanta, GA and came to Lander by way of Sheridan. Tehn has always had a love for books, and as a quiet kid, books became their best friends. Tehn has worked as a librarian for 5 years and has been a bookseller at two separate bookstores. We are so grateful to have Tehn’s passion for reading, care for people, and impeccable style in the store! Keep an eye out for a new Staff Picks shelf soon 😊
