Happy birthday to me!! 🎉 On Friday I turned 36. I had birthday lunch at my favorite local spot and there were musicians and they performed a little impromptu birthday serenade for me!! 🎻🎶 My mom and I visited the Dogwood Arts fest and I was proud to see so many friends displaying their creative work 🌻 I ended the day with fancy wine and cake thanks to Haley who shared her birthday with me!! 🍷 I pulled the pasqueflower from my Yardia plant tarot which is a symbol of rebirth, transformation, resilience, and courage, and yes, I will take that with me into this coming year.

Truthfully I did not see myself living in Knoxville or running a business at age 36 but to be fair, I don’t think I could have pictured this 🌿 Grateful for family and friends who are there for me, the chance to make a living from my creative work, and a new year of life to spend learning and growing and planting seeds and watering them and transforming again and again 🦋

I’ve been so thrilled with the reception you’ve given to our newest collection: Garden Fresh! 🍅🥒🌶️ And I’m proud to share that in our first quarter selling this collection, we were able to raise $675 for working to keep our neighbors fed. See donation receipt at the end 🙂 As we expand this collection, I’ll continue to give 10% of the proceeds to fight food insecurity in East Tennessee!

Which leads me to the next bit of news… Garden Fresh washi is here! Our new tomato and pickles + peppers washi tapes will be up soon for both wholesale and direct ordering 🌱

What an incredible weekend !! ✏️💗

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth!! My mom and I had so much fun meeting people and reconnecting with industry buddies. This was my first-ever stationery fest and it truly cracked open a whole new world for me… I’ve never sold so much washi tape before!! 🤭

I’m blown away by the thoughtfulness of the team who hosted this event. Pulling this off is no small task—thank you Tyler and Eric for making it happen!! I’m heading back home full of creative ideas and inspiration and gratitude for this community of “paper people.” 💗

February for Root & Branch was a welcome reprieve from the blur of January’s winter market season. Once the show orders were shipped out, I had time and space to create, explore, and play! I’ve been revisiting old linocut blocks, experimenting with paper weaving, piecing together improv quilts, and generally making lots of messes! ✨

For a long time I have been thinking about the merging of block printing and textiles, which feels full of opportunity for me. Not sure where this is going exactly but I am having fun finding out. I’m spending less time on this app and more inclined to share studio updates via my email newsletter. If you’d like to follow along, make sure you’re subscribed—link is here 🐛

Big news folks 🗞️ I am raising prices on my greeting cards. Starting this Monday, Feb 23 we’ll be shifting from $5.50/card to $6/card 💌

This is the first time in 8+ years (!!!) that I have raised prices on my greeting cards and obviously it was not something I rushed into 🐌

Because I am one girl running this small business, not some multi-national conglomerate (ew, gross word) I’ll take a minute to break down what actually led to this decision 🧮

Let’s start with the basics: rising material costs. This seems obvious but it’s more complex than just “my printer raised their prices.” My printers have in fact raised their prices several times since I started selling cards 8 years ago! A lesser obvious reality is that the suppliers of my envelopes, sleeves, and shipping materials have all raised their prices too. Overhead costs like rent have gone up. And don’t even get me started on shipping costs. This stuff all adds up.

I’m also taking into account other more fluid factors like shifting industry expectations. My indie stationery world is a tight-knit, extremely relational industry, and we work together. I don’t want to undercut anyone and it’s important to me to make sure my prices are reflecting the industry as a whole 👯‍♀️ Also… ya know, 8+ years of inflation also does come into play a bit 🎈

All this to say: you heard it from me first. Our cards will bump up 10% starting next week! This will be reflected on my website and Etsy. Wholesalers, this does not apply to our wholesale pricing, just DTC ✌🏼

Now is a GREAT time to stock up on cards before the prices go up 💌 Thank you for your support, now and always!!

Trade show season is a lot—it’s grueling and overwhelming but as a primarily wholesale business, it is a huge part of Root & Branch’s year. I’m looking back at these photos and feeling proud of myself for being brave and trying something new and unfamiliar.

Swipe for some memories—including building my first-ever hard wall booth, launching in a showroom, pitching my line of American-made goods to Canadians in the middle of a pointless trade war (🥴🫠) and working on Election Day 2024 and the 2 days following (😵😰 yes I wore black). Maybe this year I will *not* cry during market week! Doubt it 😂

Working a trade show and selling pretty things during the chaos of our current world is not easy. Ultimately I’m feeling inspired by the wonderful retailers who are doing the same, showing up in their own spaces and enriching their communities day after day. I’m humbled by the shop owners and buyers who have chosen to place orders with me season after season—from our longterm partners who have carried our line since 2018 (!!) to brand new retailers taking a chance on Root & Branch this season, it is truly an honor to get to be a small part of your small businesses 🥲 Happy winter market season ♥️

Hi friends! Please join me tomorrow evening Dec 6th from 4-9pm for a cozy makers market and holiday party at . 211 W Fifth Ave! ❄️

I’ll have a bunch of holiday cards and giftable items, and there will be free drinks and snacks and Santa himself will be making an appearance. I’ll also have all my gift wraps and will wrap up your presents for you! 🎁

This is my only in-person event for the year and I’m not sure when my next one will be! I’m looking forward to seeing you and drinking some holiday bevs and wrapping some gifts and celebrating together 🍻

Feeling grateful for the privilege it is to be an artist, to make things, and to run a little business selling my things. Even in this chaotic, unpredictable year where sales are down and everything feels uncertain, we are still here together. I am so grateful ♥️

This week I am running a seconds sale and fundraiser for , because every home should have food on the table. Together we have raised $300 already! I still have lots of cards and other items available via my website. The sale and fundraiser will continue until we run out of seconds mystery packs! ✨

In a world increasingly automated, where more and more of the images we consume are AI-generated, I feel more drive to unplug, to write freehand, to send notes, to draw by hand, to meet in person, to share meals, to make sure my neighbors are okay—to live fully rooted in the real world. This mindset has always been at the core of my work as an artist. To look around, to notice the beauty around us and to take a minute to appreciate and share it with others.

In a world increasingly structured by billionaire-owned corporations, the fact that you choose to shop with small, independent companies is a beacon of hope. Thank you to each of you who has shopped with me this season and to my retail partners for your continued support! Thank you for sending letters, for writing Christmas cards, for giving small-batch gifts. I am grateful for you ♥️
