Electrolytes!?! Do's and Don'ts....there is SO many brands, flavors and opinions about this. What are your tips of the trade, do you have a brand that you love? Electrolytes when used properly I believe can add needed muscle hydration and pop to your showpig. I believe that overusing electrolytes can cause pigs to become stiff...so I think it is a huge balancing act when it comes to preparing for shows. We start top dressing our feed a couple of days before the show. Once we are at the show, we will offer electrolytes mixed with water to encourage water intake. We use Sunglo's 4sure product!

Let's talk about "Dippity Pig Syndrome" with spring coming up and shows starting we can see this popping up from time to time. They call it this because your pig can have a dipping motion when walking/moving because of the lesions that are on the back. This will typically run its course without treatment in 7 to 10 days however most of you like us don't want to wait that long. What has worked for us is applying penicillin topically to the pigs back along with administering an anti-inflammatory such as banamine or aspirin.

I have been seeing lots of questions about wormers, and dealing with mites. We have tried everything over the years! We have found that spraying prolate in the pens between cleanings and then using a pour on Ivermectin works great!
