Born and raised in Savannah, Georgia, I grew up appreciating a classic monogram on just about anything. I remember that starting from about age 10 or so, my friends and I regularly spent our allowance and birthday money on anything and everything that was preppy and monogrammed or personalized. Every Saturday, I made a beeline to the local monogramming store in Savannah to check out their stock. I
distinctly remember coveting the monogrammed fabric covers that buttoned on to the oh-so-awesome wooden handled Pappagallo purses. They coordinated so well with our Add-A-Bead necklaces. :-)
I still love monograms - especially those found on antique linens. I think it is largely thanks to my antique linen-loving mom that I enjoy using lettering characteristic of a bygone era. She has been developing a collection of antique linens since I was a child and I still enjoy looking at the detail of the stitching and trying to recreate some of the designs on the linens. That said, most of the work that I do involves more modern fonts, and I have a very wide range of styles available. If you don't see the exact font you are searching for among my fonts shown on Etsy, please send me a photo (because I have so many that I can't display them all) and I'll try my best to match it. I also have lots of designs, which range from fun and juvenile for children, to those that are more modern and unique. I plan to post some of them here on the Downing Street Designs page in the coming weeks. Just ask if you have something in mind you would like to see! Also, if you have a thought in mind for an item that I should carry in my shop, please message me and let me know. I am always looking for new ideas!
