Here is a clip of what I like to do when releasing . This is especially important when you tire the fish out. I had to get this fish up a 6" hole and it must have been a few minutes at the end waiting for the right moment to pull its head up the hole.
Sometimes they are spunky and still wriggling so it's not as important to do if they are still fighting you after they get unhooked
For fish that are tired, hold their tail, wait for them to kick off. Drop them vertically like this, if you need to give them some help I like to give them the "torpedo" which this one didn't need.
has one of the most incredible fisheries, there are TONS of these big honkers to be battled! I'm mostly focused on Lakers but there are a ton of exciting and beautiful sport fish out there for the adventurous
