I wanted summer for us.

Not summer for everyone. Summer for us. The way it feels on melanated skin.

Warm and bright and celebratory in a way that does not need permission.

All nine of their faces are on this bottle. That was never a design decision. That was a recognition. Their lived experience is the art.

I wanted them to feel beautiful. Feel seen. Feel like they are someone’s muse.

Because they are mine.

That is JUNA.

BLACK IV was built for the person who already knew.

You did not need someone to tell you the institution was not built for you. You felt it the moment you walked in. You just could not say it out loud. Not without someone asking why you were complaining. Not without someone reminding you how lucky you were to be there at all.

So you wore the smile. You kept going. You learned to be present without being reflected.

IN NOT OF was made for that experience. The navigation. The belonging you had to build on your own terms.

What about me made them let me in?

That is the first feeling. Before pride. Before accomplishment. A question.

City on a Hill was built from that moment. The arrival. The announcement of presence in a space that was designed for someone else.

Lemon and bergamot because arrival has brightness to it. Something sharp and clean about walking through those gates for the first time. Myrrh underneath it because arrival also has weight. Sacred weight.

Amber, frankincense, and cedar in the base because you do more than visit that hill. You become part of it.

This fragrance declares that you have always belonged.

Last week you met the women behind the research.

Five stories. Five voices.

All of them carrying something real through those halls.

This week I want to show you what I did with what they gave me.

I am not a chemist. I am a translator.

BLACK IV was built for Taylor.

She came expecting to be surrounded by the best and brightest. She arrived and found that excellence at Harvard already had a shape. And if your ideas did not fit that shape they were not always welcomed.

But Taylor did not wait to be accepted. She centered her Blackness through her friends, through art, through food, through joy. She made space for herself because she knew she belonged there.

Being Black and joyful is an act of resistance.

Taylor lived that every single day.

BLACK IV was built for .

She arrived and found that being present and being acknowledged are not the same thing. You can be in a room and still not see yourself in it.

So she built her own belonging. She made space for students who looked like her. She wrote. She reflected. She sought community on her own terms.

BLACK IV was built for .

She arrived and found that being present and being acknowledged were two different things.

You could be in a place and not be able to see yourself in it.

She made space for herself anyway. On her own terms.

BLACK IV was built for .

Curneisha was living through it. The loss of the first Black female president. The doxxing. The protests. The tension on campus. The weight of being present for all of it.

She protected her joy on purpose. She filtered what she let in. She was intentional about what received her attention and what did not.

That was not avoidance. That was wisdom.

There’s a moment after heartbreak where the noise finally fades — not because you’ve healed, but because you’ve stopped fighting the truth of what was.

This week in The Spaces Between, we’re sitting with that stillness.
The ache that doesn’t sting like it used to.
The peace that comes when you stop trying to rewrite the story.

Tell us what the water taught you.
The window to share your story closes November 30.
