Founded in 1970, the California High School Rodeo Association (CHSRA) is an independent, non-profit student athletic association, dedicated to building sportsmanship, horsemanship and character in our youth. It was created to give junior high school and high school students with a 2.0 and above grade point average the opportunity to participate and compete in this unique and challenging sport.

There are 2 grade divisions with approximately 900 members in nine California districts. Each district holds eight to ten rodeos throughout the school year. Contestants accumulate points for placing first thru tenth, the top five district competitors in each event qualify to go to the CHSRA State Finals rodeo held in May (Junior Highschool Division) & June ( High School Division). The top four winners in each event at the State Finals qualify to compete at the Junior High School National Finals Rodeo in June & High School National Finals Rodeo in July.
