Spend enough time around a gun shop or range (or most commonly the internet lol) and you’ll hear it: “What caliber is best?” 9mm vs .40 .45 ACP vs everything. Stopping power. Muzzle energy. Expansion. Capacity. Etc
The caliber debate never really dies. But it’s also never really answered. It almost always ends the same way: “Shot placement matters more than caliber.” And that’s true. But here’s the thing:
Shot placement is just another word for ACCURACY!
Being accurate with your firearm is FAR more important than the make or caliber you’re choosing. If you can’t produce tight, consistent groups on a flat range with no stress what makes you think under pressure and adrenaline of a life threatening situation you’re going to turn into a professional competition shooter?
You need training. It’s your responsibility as a gun owner. It’s the same as anything else. For some reason there’s a myth in the amateur firearm community that simply owning a firearm is enough. It’s not. If it’s important enough to defend yourself or your family with then it’s important enough to learn, practice and put your time into it.
In defensive shooting situations, accuracy isn’t about winning a debate, it’s about protecting lives. Prioritize your training to be as proficient as possible.
