When Priscilla was sick, I wandered in to a fabric store seeking some comfort and warmth for myself and my friend. What I came away with was a technique where I could iron squares of fabric on to a printed grid of an interfacing product. Around the squares of fabric, I placed strips of fabric and ironed them in place also. Once all the fabric squares and fabric strips were ironed down, I took the
piece of interfacing and folded it right sides together and discovered how to sew between the squares and the strips. How simple and quick this technique turned out to be! And the resulting quilt was quite impressive!! Unfortunately, my friend passed away before I could present her with the quilt I had designed. Later, I got to thinking, if I, a "non-quilter," could use this simple and quick technique to create a beautiful, handmade quilt, there must be other self-proclaimed "non-quilters" out there wanting to do the same thing that I could encourage and help with my designs. Thus, Crooked Nickel Quilt Designs was born. Since 2005, I have created patterns using the Crooked Nickel Quilt Designs technique not only for quilts, but for handbags, pillows, table runners, aprons and placemats too. If you are looking to make original, handmade accents for your home -- or to give away as gifts -- that are simple to sew in a short amount of time, Crooked Nickel Designs is what you are looking for.
