First smell is free, second one is 50¢ 😉

Don’t forget to stop by and smell the (local) roses this weekend! Really. Just come by and take a minute. It’s worth it, I promise.

So many people take in a deep breath and say “Wow, I haven’t smelled that smell for a really long time”.

So nostalgic. They remind me of my grandfather’s beautiful rose garden in California. And imported roses just hardly have any smell … so this is a real treat!

Next week we will have fresh custom bouquets available Tuesday-Saturday and our pick ups will start early at 9 am.

PORCH PICK UP IN FALLSTON

Good morning and Happy Mother’s Day!

Thank you so much for all of your orders and for shopping with us this week! We are so grateful for each and every one of you.

I wanted to let you know that we were able to make a few more things from our beautiful flowers this week and I’m offering a porch pick up at my home in Fallston.

As many of you know, but new followers might not, Washday Floral began in my laundry room! I offered porch pick up for five years before opening a storefront. 💛

Kinda fun to bring things home and set up a little table.

Tuesday night Mama Jo and I pulled a late night at the shop. As we carry all of the planted baskets and succulent tea cups from her car she tells me about her day. She is caring for a cousin who recently had a baby and is struggling with the transition to motherhood. She has taken in a teen in a troubling situation who has made a bed on her couch. Her son is recovering from a difficult injury. And yet there we were with all the beauty she created for the mamas and the teachers and the nurses.

Her youngest daughter calls the shop while we are setting up to FaceTime her about the new ducklings. She asks what squishy toys are left in the shop. Jo smiles and oohs and aaahs over the ducklings while she ties bows on begonias.

Both Cindy and Stacy have college kids that are sick this week and they both call to check in on them as they process roses and arrange flowers into vases for Mother’s Day. They offer comfort and advice, follow up after appointments.

Jen comes in late to the shop on Wednesday after getting home from a trip to see her son graduate from college. She works late and jet-lagged making corsages to help keep us on schedule.

Briana sends a text asking if we can cover the first half hour of her afternoon shift because the physical therapy office just called and can squeeze her daughter in and she would love to be able to have her daughter seen today. Cort quickly replies that it’s no problem.

Cort coordinates getting her son to the shop in the afternoon to help make up the pre-ordered gift boxes while simultaneously making a corsage for her daughter for the Patterson Mill prom and a few dozen more for all the other lucky teens getting a washday corsage this weekend.

Danielle walks into the shop to work on Tuesday and brings the whole staff homemade chocolate chip cookies and milk. The next day fresh chopped pineapple. Aubree shows up on Thursday for her shift with homemade sourdough crackers and homemade hummus. Briana grabs snacks for everyone at Costco. Mimi runs and does all the farm pick ups and stays after hours to volunteer to clean up and wash buckets.

One mama calls to coordinate salt shaker arrangements for all the teachers at her school and another mom texts to see if we can make small wrapped bunches for all the mamas on her kid’s sports teams that are sitting on sidelines on Mother’s Day. She says it makes the kids so happy to give their mom flowers.

We have women shopping for their own mamas and mother in laws, special aunts, putting together thoughtful gifts for school nurses and teachers and daycare workers. I see the cute tags Mama Jo put together - for the mamas and the teachers and the begonias she has wrapped. I see the women putting her tags into flowers and plants. The tags she stayed up late making.

And none of it is lost on me.

One mama to the next mama to the next mama.

Mamas helping mamas helping mamas.

The chain of care and love and appreciation moves me to tears.

That’s not to say there aren’t amazing men that walk through our doors, dads that bring in their littles to pick out something fun for mom or pick up flowers for wives or mothers… and supportive husbands that bring the staff lunch and sweep floors and run errands…

But it just so happens that our entire staff is made of women and the swirling beauty of a mother’s care for her own children while simultaneously caring and loving on other women and children will always stop me in my tracks.

This shop is blessed to know you. To serve you and each other. To build a community of some of the most extraordinarily caring people I have ever known.

DANCE ORDERING WILL CLOSE AT 10pm!

It’s happening again this year like it did last year at this time. All the Mother’s Day orders are coming in at the same time as all the prom orders. For the same weekend. 🤪

Do you know a lot of florists don’t even take prom orders on mothers day weekend?

But I have a different mindset. If the schools are going to have proms on mother’s day weekend, by golly the best gift I can give to the mamas is to keep my dance ordering open.

The last thing we need is all the mamas scurrying around town stressed out trying to find a way to make their kids have a special night. Or staying up late trying to DIY one more thing. Most of the moms I know would probably rather me make their kids dance flowers than their own Mother’s Day arrangement!

I wanted to close ordering on Friday night but I decided to keep it open through the weekend.

Dance ordering will stay open until 10pm Sunday night (May 3rd). And then after that, ALL dance ordering will pause for 3 days and reopen on Thursday for subsequent weeks.

So even if you are ordering for an upcoming weekend that section of the site will be closed for three days to allow for Mother’s Day orders to continue to come in.

On Wednesday, Mother’s Day ordering will close and dance ordering for after Mother’s Day will resume.

I hope that makes sense! Please get all orders in ASAP.

So many things going on this upcoming week to kick off “Maycember ”!! Teacher appreciation, nurse appreciation, daycare appreciation MOTHERS DAY. We have something for everyone!
