Robben Island is a place I felt. Deeply.

From the limestone quarry to the isolation of Robert Sobukwe because his words empowered the masses to hearing directly from a former political prisoner to learning about the horrible treatment of freedom leaders like Nelson Mandela ... the weight of history was everywhere.

The boat ride back to Cape Town left me somewhere between anger and grief and hope over the decades of resilience by so many people.

One of those days where you carry very little physically, but everything emotionally (my Segilola crossbody held the essentials like tissues).

Lake Anne Christmas Festival recap 🎄🎅

The festival was again such a great experience. The colors, the community, the programming, the live music, and all the unique craft and handmade vendors.

By the end of the day, my voice and body definitely let me know we’d spent 8 hours in near freezing temps, but I’m so grateful for everyone who stopped by, supported, or shared a compliment. Local support for my brands makes the long prep nights and cold hours totally worth it. And honestly, for all the crying and complaining I do at the gym, I’m also proud of myself for surviving 23 minutes, 15+ laps on almost 3 flights of stairs, carrying 50+ lbs each trip up to pack my car at the end ☺️.

We touched down in Cape Town ✈️ After club nights, cultural education & safari in Johannesburg!

Table Mountain welcoming us from the Airbnb with unreal views 😍 was only the start of realizing just how beautiful this city is.
Quick Shoprite run, refresh, then straight to for a 10/10 culinary and cultural immersion. This was a kinda birthday trip for my friend so we got a treat but the artists and team made sure everyone on every floor and at every corner felt special.

Still no idea how we ate through 14 dishes from different countries across the continent but what a great first night in Cape Town. 🤎

Cold and rainy safari day but honestly, its true those are the best for sightings. The animals were out. Lion, leopard, elephant, rhino… four of the Big Five. Plus crocodile, kudu, zebra, baboons, a monitor lizard, and even wildebeest.

We didn’t catch a buffalo or giraffe this time, but I saw both in Nairobi last year with my brother, so I wasn’t too upset. Just wish my friend could’ve seen them on her first safari.

Big shoutout to my Segi Bella canvas bag for being the perfect safari bag, and my Segi Bella scarf for protecting my neww hair. The canvas held everything. Jacket, blanket, and a couple of scarves for when keeping it cute might get us sick 😅 but still kept the fashion energy in the middle of the wild.

Long day and lots of driving for this excursion, but loved every second. 🐆🐘✨

As a small business, every order truly means a lot especially this year when everyone is being extra thoughtful about how they spend their money and choosing meaningful gifts for the people they love. 🎄💛

And a big shoutout to the three amazing strangers and fellow Cape Town tourists who took these videos of me 🥰. I wear Segi pieces at home, around the city, at the office, and on date nights too.... I’m just a lot awkward in front of the camera. So vacation is the only time I pretend to be a model (don’t we all?) and the videos turn out great!

Happy Thanksgiving! I'm so thankful for every single dollar$$ shoppers spend with Segi Shop and for supporting our brands. Online, for events, at markets, and even from my home 🥰

This year was the first time I honestly let go and let God guide this business. I used to believe I had to be present for every moment. That my ideas, hours, and energy alone were what pushed things forward. But as I stepped into a new corporate role and traveled and celebrated family and friends (who I'm sooo grateful for) literally every month, I learned to give myself permission to find balance in business without guilt. I think the whole family did.

I wouldn't say it was a growth year, I cut back on markets and marketing, and all expenses really challenged us. And still… the trust, the orders, and the love for Segi Shop continued.

For that, I’m deeply thankful.

Out here in the rain and wind today, but we stuck to our market pick-up schedule... no late canceling 😅. Kept the setup small and tight with lots of handmades in the perfect price range for Secret Santa or white elephant gifts.

So grateful for everyone who shows up to support small local businesses in any weather!

Segi Travels: South Africa 2025 🇿🇦

One of our first excursions was Lesedi Village in Johannesburg and it was the perfect way to learn about the people, the heart of the country. We learned about the major tribes, their languages, customs, traditions, and even what it would've taken to get top bride prices 😅. We were taken back in time through reconstruction, storytelling and culture... and unique snacks 🐛.
We ended the day with the most incredible performances and a delicious tradition dinner. Special shout out to our city guide/ driver who really gave us more very honest historical perspective.

Please don’t come for me 🫣😅

Bleach on ingredients is wild, and I agree that it looks horrible. That said and I don’t know the full details of this case, but inspectors can be extra sometimes and they're usually allowed to be. Most inspectors see food safety as a partnership but their reaction or evaluation depends on violation risks. Mine came with 3 thermometers and spent almost 4hrs on my renewal 2025/2026 inspection... renewal! But he was super professional and of course passed.

I'm maybe more neutral here. Since I sell at farmers markets and across states online, I’m super careful with permits, certificate and licenses because one mistake can cause real problems for my brand. I’ve also seen vendors get customers sick and it impacts everyone at a market region.

Bleach aside, there are food safety program standards by State. Hopefully this vendor gets the chance to fix things and keep their small business going.

Segi Travels: South Africa 2025

This trip didn’t start easy. Shutdown delays, rebooking chaos, and losing a day of excursions in Johannesburg. But stepping into South Africa for the first time, settling into our massive suite, and getting my hair done on the continent in over a year (Kenya 2024) it just all felt worth it.
Grateful for every travel moment! 🤍✈️🇿🇦

Starting the week on vacation in South Africa, unwinding at the lux in Cape Town… ending the week bundled up like other vendors at Reston Town Center. The steep transition is more than jet lag (and isn't discussed enough 😅).

I’m grateful to be back though! Thank you to local shoppers,period. And extra shout out to those who stopped by to say you missed me the past few weeks. Blessed to be able to travel, explore, learn, recharge, and then come right back to this amazing market community.
