📀 TODAY IN HIP HOP HISTORY
On May 29, 1987, LL Cool J released his sophomore album Bigger and Deffer (BAD).
The album helped cement LL's status as one of hip-hop's first superstars and featured classics like "I'm Bad," "I Need Love," and "Go Cut Creator Go." Blending hard-hitting battle rhymes with crossover appeal, Bigger and Deffer expanded hip-hop's reach and proved an MC could dominate both the streets and the charts.
Nearly four decades later, this remains one of the most important albums of rap's golden era.

Today in Hip Hop History: May 28, 1991 🔥

N.W.A. dropped their second and final studio album, Efil4zaggin — an album that debuted at #1 and proved the group could shake the system without watering anything down.

From “Appetite for Destruction” to “Alwayz Into Somethin’,” this record captured the raw energy, controversy, and street reality that made N.W.A. one of the most influential groups in hip-hop history.

More than 30 years later, the impact still hits hard. 🎤

What’s your favorite track off Efil4zaggin??? 👀

🎧 Vol. 1— Tony Touch #56 “HOT S**T!!” 🔥

Now THIS was that era.

Before streaming playlists…
before DSP exclusives…
the streets were listening to tapes like this.

📼 Tony Touch #56 — HOT S**T!!

Straight underground heat featuring:
🔥 Wu-Tang
🔥 Nas
🔥 Big L
🔥 Fat Joe
🔥 Mobb Deep
🔥 Gang Starr
🔥 Common
🔥 Rakim
…and more.

This was the golden era of real mixtapes:
dubbed cassettes, handwritten tracklists, rewind buttons, and DJs controlling the culture.

No skips.
No algorithms.
Just raw hip-hop.

👇 Question of the week:
Which artist on this tape had the hardest track? 👀

Shyheim – Shaolin Style
Young age… grown-man bars. 🔥
Shyheim came into the game repping Staten Island heavy, carrying that raw Wu-Tang energy while still sounding completely like himself.
Shaolin Style had that rugged beat, gritty street flavor, and that unmistakable mid-90s New York feel that real heads still respect today.
A lot of people forget how hard Shyheim was coming back then—dude was holding his own around legends while still being a teenager.
This one deserves way more love when people talk about underrated Wu-affiliated classics.
You had this on deck back in the day, or did you sleep on it? 👀
