Welcome and happy new year! January marks the beginning of my new business, project, creative outlet, dream, The Magpie’s Table. It is affectionately named for the black-billed magpie, a common Colorado bird that is delightfully new to me and known for incorporating a wide variety of materials into its elaborate nest.
Much like the magpie, I love crafting beautiful, comfortable spaces from unique objects. I find that the combination of different styles, patterns, colors, and eras creates a vastly more interesting and story-laden atmosphere, which opens us up to richer interactions and relationships. The Magpie’s Table is an invitation to enrich one of the most important places of community-building: the dining table.
A few core beliefs guide this business, aimed at helping everyone achieve a dining table that fills them with joy and around which they are excited to gather:
1) Our environments play an important role in our well-being, and the materials we surround ourselves with should bring us joy.
2) When we feel proud and comfortable in our spaces, we open ourselves up to deeper community.
3) You get to love what you love. We do not have to adhere to the definitions of style that capitalism tries to sell to us. It’s a trap!
4) Everyone deserves to have beauty in their life, not just those who can “afford” it.
5) There are so many gorgeous, interesting, well-made goods already in the world. We don’t need to buy newly produced stuff when there is so much existing treasure out there.
In the coming weeks I’ll explain more of what The Magpie’s Table has to offer, including curated dinnerware collections for purchase, story sales of fabulous vintage finds, and custom services to help you curate the most joyful and charming version of your home’s heart, the dining table.
