I read “Make Way for Ducklings” to Morgana this morning and realized I’ve never read it before (or if I have, I didn’t remember the story at all)! I expected to love it but didn’t expect it to feel new. Thanks for the sweet gift! 10/10, totally deserved that Caldecott.
We’re doing 1000 books before kindergarten and since we have infinite children’s books in this house (and a very long time until kindergarten), I’m being extra fussy and trying to only count each new book. (Like, we read Harold and the Purple Crayon every week but it’s only on the list once.) So far we’re at 293 unique books.
I’m also trying a new thing where I keep my phone in the other room while Morgana is awake. I get out my phone to take a picture of her and boom I’m scrolling instagram. So attempting to do less of that. One challenge is that we log everything in the Huckleberry app — nap time, bottles, diaper changes — otherwise that’s all Ryan and I talk about. This morning I just wrote it all on paper and put in my phone after she fell asleep. Even her reading log is on my phone, but that’s easy to fill out after the fact, because I just stack up the books until they’re logged in Beanstack.
If you have any effective strategies for staying off your phone and being more intentional with your kid, please tell me.
