Welcome to Broken By Design Mosaics
In 2007, Amy Glass made her first mosaic and her passion for the art has taken off ever since. She started entering her mosaics in the Texas State Fair and has won a ribbon every year since. As she started collecting materials, she started a ministry, My Mosaic Closet. She researched the art of mosaics and started buying materials for tesserae (dishes, china, ti

le, jewelry pieces, etc.) and started honing her art. Amy quickly realized that she could not afford to buy wooden bases, so she took up woodworking. Woodworking connects her with her father’s lifetime love of woodworking. She uses some of his equipment she inherited and treasures this time. Her bases are not perfect, but that adds to the uniqueness of each piece. She loves to recycle wood, making something beautiful out of something that was thrown away and useless. Eventually, her supplies grew too large for a closet and she moved them a large room when it became available, which became her in-home studio. She now has extensive supplies for every stage of the process – from raw wood to tesserae to grout. Not only has she taken over a room, but most of the garage too. Others have said that her passion has overtaken her house. Her initial goal was to help moms have balance by providing a night out with friends. As word spread, her workshops grew and she began hosting private groups, including women’s Bible study groups, birthday parties, family reunions, neighborhood groups and bridal showers. She has even taken her workshop on the road at women’s retreats and out-of-town gatherings. For the past 5 years, she has had over 200 ladies each year make mosaics in her studio, many of whom she had never met before the workshop. From the minute Amy walked into the Richardson Mercantile, she started to visualize her dream of having her own mosaic business. Through the support of family and friends, she opened Broken By Design Mosaics in September 2016. She not only creates the mosaics for sale, but also offers monthly workshops at the Richardson Mercantile. She hopes you enjoy her art and can participate in a workshop soon. Amy Glass is the mother of five grown children and a 6-year old. She is supported by her husband, Rich, and loves to touch peoples’ lives. Her goal in life is to give God glory in everything that she does.
