I grew up with Nichol Block as it was our family business. Sold twice before my husband and I were able to purchase it back in 2019 and have our sons work with us.

CMU Fun Facts
Concrete masonry units were first invented in England in the 1850s and were later introduced to the United States in the late 1800s. In 1900, Harmon Palmer patented the first commercially successful concrete block machine. This led to a surge in the popularity of CMUs in the United States. By the 1920s, CMUs were being used in a wide variety of buildings, and their popularity has only continued to grow in the years since. Today, CMUs are a common building material used worldwide.

Just in time to have those BBQ's, S'mores and time with friends and family. Concrete Block can allow you to enjoy an inexpensive alternative for a fire pit.
Concrete Block are not fireproof; however, they could last for years with proper planning. The reason the concrete block will crack, or crumble has many possible reasons. The most common is that once the aggregate gets too hot, it will expand and that allows for the block to split or crumble after just a year or two. Some ideas for planning your fire pit could include:
*Allow enough distance within the pit so that the fire isn't directly on the blocks.
*Allow for air flow from the bottom of the wall(s). This will allow the fire to feed and push the heat up and not contain onto the inside walls of the block. This still allows the block to retain the heat.

Safety is always the most important to enjoying your fire pit.
