Same wood. Two completely different tones. 👀

This micro compact set was made from two-tone Amboyna burl, with the natural color transition running right through the grain.

No dye and no added color. That's just the wood doing what it does.

We could have cut around the transition, but where's the fun in that? The contrast is what made this piece worth using.

One of only FOUR. And there will never be another run.

This is Adam Deville's Double Dragon steel, forged from a billet that produced only four blades. Once they're gone, they're gone. This pattern won't be duplicated.

For the handle, we built a geometric segmented design from redwood and black dyed black ash, then finished it with mosaic and Texas star pins.

With steel this wild, we wanted the handle to have plenty of detail of its own without competing with the pattern in the blade.

Four blades. One billet. No repeats.

Hide the voids or make them the star? 👀

This compact set started with Buckeye full of natural voids and imperfections. Instead of cutting them away, we filled them with resin and added a metallic sheen that catches the light against the darker wood.

The result is something we could never exactly duplicate, because the wood decided where every bit of that resin would go.

Perfectly imperfect wins this round.

A little Jeep history hiding in the handle. 👀

This piece combines Jeep Fordite and buckeye with mosaic pins and a Texas star pin, paired with layered 1080 and copper Damascus.

If you've never seen Fordite before, those colorful stripes aren't painted onto the handle. Fordite is made from layers of automotive paint that accumulated over time during the manufacturing process. Once it's cut and polished, all of those individual layers are exposed.

We used just a section of it here and paired it with the darker buckeye, which lets that burst of color become the centerpiece instead of overwhelming the entire handle.

Definitely one of our favorite materials when we can get our hands on it.

Burl or curl? Why choose? 👀

This full-size set was made from Box Elder with both burl figure and beautiful natural curl running through the wood.

No bright dye needed here. Just a warm natural finish that lets all those tiny knots, swirls and waves stay visible.

One piece of wood can have an absurd amount going on when you look closely.

Buckeye, red dyed mango, blonde spalted maple... and segmented mammoth molar.

Yep. Mammoth. 🦣

We paired them with layered 1080 and copper Damascus, letting the red and warm tones in the handle pick up the copper running through the steel.

This is one of those pieces where the closer you look, the more there is to find.

Some steel just refuses to be covered up.

With this dragon core, layered copper and 1080 from Adam Deville, we couldn't bring ourselves to hide half of it behind a traditional handle. So we went clear.

Clear acrylic keeps the pattern visible all the way through the grip, while the copper pins pull those copper layers through the entire piece.

And with our first complex grind running through the spine and grip, there's something different to catch from just about every angle.

I think this one officially earned its beauty shot. 😍

We couldn't bring ourselves to cover this steel.
Dragon core and jacket from Adam Deville with layered copper and 1080 cladding. We carried the copper into the pins and used clear acrylic for the handle so the steel could stay visible from end to end.

This was also our first complex grind through the spine and grip, which made this one an especially fun build.
