​Here's the visual breakdown of a drone bee's one and only mating flight:
​Stage 1: The initial mounting and secure grip.
​Stage 2: Copulation and the incredibly fast, pressurized eversion of the drone's organ for efficient s***m transfer.
​Stage 3: The 'ge***al explosion.' The mating ends with the organ detaching inside the queen as a 'mating sign,' causing catastrophic injury and an immediate fatality for the drone.
​It's a necessary sacrifice: that single flight provides the queen with millions of s***m, which she can store for her entire 5+ year lifespan to support her vast colony. Nature’s reproduction is both brutal and incredibly optimized.

The Honeybee Festival is THIS SATURDAY, May 30th — and we'll see you there, rain or shine! 🐝

Yes, there's a chance of afternoon showers in the forecast. But if you know Northwest Georgia summers, you know two things: the weather has a way of working itself out, and the forecast can change completely by tomorrow. Last year the forecast called for storms ALL day — we got a 15-minute sprinkle in the morning and sunshine the rest of the day.

Come early, enjoy the morning, grab an umbrella just in case, and let the day unfold. We'll be ready for you!

Held in Downtown LaFayette the weekend after Memorial Day, this free, rain-or-shine festival brings thousands of visitors into the Queen City of the Highlands for a full day built around music, food, shopping, and honeybee fun...with hundreds of local vendors to browse! Live music across multiple stages, evening headline performances, dozens of food vendors, and hundreds of arts and crafts booths. Families can enjoy the free Kids Zone, while the Honeybee Education Pavilion offers hands-on learning about pollinators and why honeybees matter. Visitors can also check out the KCBS Barbecue Competition, Honeybee Honey Show, baking contest, Honeybee Pageant, classic car show, cruise-in, and antique tractors.
