Shortly after graduating from Art School I moved from California to Ohio and got a job in the stone shop of Tony Solazzo, and began carving stone. The process and the history of it captivated me then, and still does. I have used stone carving to fund all kinds of artistic exploration, and it has served me well. This column in Goodale Park in Columbus, Ohio, originally installed in 1899, has deteriorated badly. I have been commissioned by a restoration outfit to re-carve the heads. My proposal is to rebuild the missing parts with clay and then to re-carve new sandstone blocks to match the clay.
