Every time someone asks, “What glue do you use for your ornaments?” I smile, because the answer is a little like a secret recipe—there isn’t just one! Each project is a tiny adventure, and the glue I choose depends on the journey the materials take together. Here’s a peek into my craft box and the stories each glue helps me tell:

Aleene’s Fabric Fusion is my go-to when felt needs to stay soft or when I want to keep fraying threads in check—it’s like wrapping the edges in a gentle hug.

Hot glue sticks swoop in for those rushed moments when fabric and yarn need to stick fast, or when I need a quick fix as stronger glues settle in for the long haul.

Aleene’s Tacky Glue is perfect when paper and cardboard need to hold tight—almost like a friend lending a steady hand.

For projects with two unlikely companions—say, paper and fabric—I trust Aleene’s The Ultimate Glue, patiently curing for 24 hours, or E-6000, which takes a little longer but builds strong bonds.

Weldbond comes out when thick paper and cardboard need to stick, but speed isn’t of the essence—giving me time to make sure everything aligns just right.

Elmer’s School Glue Stick is gentle enough for thin papers that would otherwise wrinkle—a soft touch that keeps delicate layers smooth.

These glues are more than tools—they’re silent partners in my creative journey. And there are so many more waiting backstage, ready to step in for the next episode of “Not All Glues Are Created Equal.”

Which glues have accompanied you in your craft adventures? Let’s share stories and secrets—because every handmade piece carries a tale behind its seams and stitches.

Happy gluing,

Catalina

Stepping into Twistedbark Woods feels like wandering into a page from a fairy tale. Here, gnomes with wild magic dance among the blue-leafed trees, weaving ancient spells from the very earth beneath their feet.

The forest hums with a secret life: sunlight dapples through twisted branches covered with lichens and moss, and mushrooms, ferns and toadstools paint the ground with wonder, and every breeze carries the laughter of gnomes tending their mossy gardens. And whiffs of chives and ramps add to the mystery of this realm.

It’s a place where the soil is treasured, nurtured by centuries of falling leaves and guarded fiercely by those who know its worth—the Woodland Gnomes. In Twistedbark Woods, every corner bursts with enchantment—and every visit reminds me that magic isn’t just in stories; it’s right here, waiting to be found.

Have you found your magic?

Sometimes, the magic behind a handmade ornament isn’t just in the look—it’s in the thoughtful engineering that makes it last year after year. Every time I dream up a new ornament, I find myself considering how to build it to withstand the playful chaos of the holidays. Sure, I can’t predict everything (puppies are wild cards!), but I can prepare for tumbling trees and curious little hands with some clever detail work.

For example, this tiny button is more than meets the eye—it acts as a washer, anchoring a wire through the ornament’s body. That wire becomes the backbone for the hanging loop, ensuring my creation stays together even if the glue gives up someday. It’s a small trick, but one that brings me peace, knowing the ornaments I make are crafted to last.

There’s something wonderful about discovering and sharing these little solutions. It’s where creativity and engineering meet—and where the story of each ornament truly begins.

Sometimes, ideas simmer in my mind for ages before they finally burst forth into reality. The journey from a thought to a tangible piece is never straightforward—first, I need to shape the vision, then put it through countless trial-and-error cycles until the design feels just right.

Every step, from sketching to prototyping, is a blend of patience, engineering, and magic.

Creating my Book Dragon ornament was a true adventure: three different patterns, each with their own quirks and challenges, but each teaching me something new.

The first was just a drawing—there was no way to support the dragon. The second had a tail so narrow, I could barely turn it right side out, and no matter how I stuffed it, the tail’s curve just wouldn’t hold.

Finally, the third pattern—complete with a curved tail, reinforced fabric, and a sturdy hanging loop—brought my vision to life, resting atop a stack of books just as I imagined.

It takes time, but this process is where creativity and engineering meet, and where I find the most joy.

Meet my magical companions, each one a spark of creativity in my enchanted studio!

Drea, my mini drill (a Dremel MultiPro gifted by my husband Steve), spins with the power to shape dreams into reality.

Bella is my clay rolling and toilet paper roll flattening machine—yes, you read that right! She’s a Marcato Atlas Noodle Maker from Italy, but what matters is how she turns humble materials into whimsical creations.

Rosie, my 3D printer—an original Prusa Mini built by my son—is pure magic. She brings every imagined part or accessory to life, with the help of PrusaSlicer software.

Darling, my husband Steve’s drill press, which lets me join ornament bodies and heads, so my magical creatures never lose their heads.

And Samantha—my trusty tabletop saw—slices through wood, cardboard, and even the toughest plastic, helping me sculpt tiny worlds one cut at a time.

These tools aren’t just equipment—they’re partners in the magic. Carefully named, each one holds a story and a purpose. They make every day at the studio be a new adventure—where wonder, possibility, and creativity never end.

Step into Acorn Hollow, the very first dream that came to life in my enchanted world of Eathakah. Picture tiny fairies and pixies fluttering among magical snails, their homes tucked beneath mushrooms and towering pinecones. Here, the ancient whisper of mossy stones and gentle trees creates villages so small you might find them hidden in a teacup or burrowed in a rabbit hole. Sunlight filters through the lush leaves, sparkling across playful fairies and shimmering snail trails—a sanctuary where every creature, no matter how small, gets to be the hero of their own story. In this magical realm, wonder is everywhere and imagination knows no bounds.

Believe in magic!🧚🏼

Recently, I turned the last page of The Four Winds series by Alexandria Warwick, and my heart is full 📚❤️. Each book stands strong on its own yet fits together like pieces of a puzzle, crafting a story that is gripping and profound. The writing? It’s pure magic, pulling you into every emotion, every triumph, every heartbreak.

What truly touched me was the relentless spirit of the characters, each fighting for their slice of happiness, supported by the love of those around them, even when the future is uncertain. It’s a journey of resilience, love, and hope that will stay with me forever. 📚✨
Happy reading,

Sometimes, the most treasured gifts aren’t things at all—they are words that become a part of us, shaping who we are and how we see the world.

Growing up, my mom often shared her favorite poem, “Ithaka” by C. P. Cavafy, weaving its words into our lives as a gentle reminder that life’s journey holds more value than the destination itself. This poem was her way of teaching us to cherish each step we take. “Ithaka” became part of me— woven into the very fabric of my heart, mind, and my wanderings through world, fueling my creative spirit.

As I delve into its verses, “Ithaka” whispers its true magic: if we don’t open ourselves to the magic surrounding us, it slips away unnoticed. We must keep our eyes wide open and carry that enchantment with us—the magic of nature, learning, growing, and the childlike spark deep within us all.

This poem inspired me to create EATHAKAH, a world where magic exists for anyone who believes. EATHAKAH is a distant fantasy world with magical realms inhabited by Fae, fairies, trolls, gnomes, dragons, and elves—a place that exists in your imagination as long as you dare to dream.

But EATHAKAH is also a hidden layer within the everyday—a place found in the glistening dew drops on morning leaves, the serene stillness of a summer night gently lit by fireflies, the chorus of frogs hoping for a fairy-tale kiss, the silent flit of dragonflies, their cellophane wings casting rainbows in the sunlight, and the footprints that vanish as waves embrace the shore—imprints that live on only in your heart.

If you let yourself believe in magic, it will gently guide you to the place you’re meant to go—call it EATHAKAH, call it home. Embark on this journey with your loved ones and let the wonders along the way fill you with enchantment, transforming you before you ever reach your destination. As the poem says:

“Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey. Without her you wouldn’t have set out.”

Come discover my EATHAKAH—a magical world with enchanting realms waiting to be found as long as your heart is open to it, as long as you dare to dream.

Every time I sit down to create my ornaments, I embark on a journey of transformation. Why do I love recycling, reusing, and repurposing materials? Sure, there’s the critical mission of saving our planet, but there’s also a deeper magic at play.

Taking something discarded and giving it a second chance to shine is incredibly rewarding. It’s about the thrill of the challenge—discovering random objects and letting my imagination run wild. Each item is like a spark, igniting my creativity as I wander through my magical realms, dreaming up new, fantastical creatures to bring to life.

It’s not just about breathing new life into materials; it’s about bringing to life the whimsical beings that dwell in my mind, waiting to enchant. These creations find their way to bookshelves or Christmas trees, spreading joy and wonder wherever they land.

In the cozy corners of my imagination, nestled among childhood memories and the enchanted pages of books, reside the fairies, gnomes, trolls, elves, and countless other magical creatures. Each one crafted by my hands, yet yearning for a world to call home—a world still whispering in the confines of my mind, eager to be shared with all.

This year, I embark on a heartwarming journey to breathe life into this mystical realm—a tapestry waiting to unfold beyond the solitary musings of my imagination. I named it Eathakah. Last year, I unveiled a glimpse of this world through Acorn Hollow, a small yet vibrant peek into the wonders that await. But Acorn Hollow is merely a speck, a star in a vast sky of magical lands, each brimming with enchanting tales and characters.

What lies ahead is a labor of love and creativity. To start, I’m crafting a map to guide you through my magical universe, Eathakah. I will also be writing detailed stories of each realm, and introducing Realm Cards with every ornament, new and old. This ambitious journey will span beyond the year. Initially, it will focus on the Dragons, Trolls, and Elves collections.

I am filled with excitement and hope that you join me on this journey.
