This job was a doozy and it turned out great, so I wanted to share it. I wish it was my horn.

Although it looks like the customer bent it over his knee in frustration (who hasn't wanted to do that with their soprano?), that's not the story. The real story is not mine to tell, however.

I ended up buying a one piece mandrel from Boehm. That pretty much did all the heavy lifting - metal memory is a cool thing! The side F # tone hole needed some work, but most of the other tone holes were in great shape. It took some (a lot of) patience realigning the posts, straightening the keys and rods tubes- making everything nice and crisp!

But when it was done I couldn't put it down.

This job is so cool

My first tenor was a Balanced Action - 26,000. It too had the lake scene engraved on the bell. It was pretty worn out when I got it, and I certainly wore it out practicing through my 20s. That horn, and my first tech, Rick Bowers, taught me a bunch about working on saxophones. I miss that horn. What a sound! This 28,000 alto from 1939 is NOT worn out. It's just in for a COA. It's so cool getting 84-year-old buffing rouge from the Selmer factory out of the nooks and crannies of this thing. I love my job.
Anyone know how to get in touch with Rick?

Most recently finished overhaul:
Con New Wonder C soprano from the 1920s. This one was tedious. I guess they're all tedious, but this was especially so. I learned a ton doing this one. Mostly that C sopranos are very tedious to work on.
Pretty, eh?

It's a horrible picture. My bad. But the cats are here! This is what I envisioned when I decided to open the shop. A coincidental meeting evolved into a hang. Talking about saxophones, music, and families. Old times and these new times. Don't know why I can't tag folks, but that's Bryan, Chad and Mark. My guys
