Lonely Fingertips

A different time
A different place
It was a magical time of feeling
Not somewhere commonplace

I pray you can remember the warmth
Replaced by a steelly, sterile internet so cold
That coldness is all the youth of today now know
Like hearing a wicked witch's winters screeching scold

So long my warm sweet friends
I'm going to miss you oh so much
The further we get detrached into the tundra
All I really want is a human touch

Can Ai provide that sensation
We know the internet cannot
We're becomig an obsolete society
Where human feelings are forgot

I'm ot a fan of this new existence
Miss the touch of yesteryear
I pray mankind stays connected
Instead of my tears turnning into fear

Returning Home

We did things a little different tonight
We opened a bottle of red
We said a prayer and offered a toast
To our friends and family, who are dead

Reading comments on a post from ten years ago
I realized more than half the folks have died
Surprised so many have gone on ahead
Unsure if I even cried

The point is I'm aging
Fewer and fewer of my friends are left
Seems like they're beginning to drop like flies
Makes me wonder about whose next

Wondering more and more
Since soon I go under the knife
They tell me it's a simple procedure
We've all heard of patients not leaving with their life

If it is my turn to lead the harp brigade
If the Grim Reaper shows up, I'll simply stop
Won't have time to say goodbyes
Right then and there, I'll drop

But I fear not, for two reasons
One, I'll come through this easy as pie
Two, and this is important, if I don't
Jesus will es**rt me personally up into the sky

Think of all the friends and family I'll see
I hope it includes family pets
If my dogs can't be included
Then we're calling off all bets

In a way, I'm getting kinda anxious
What a spectacular show awaits
Seriously, all my friends and family I've so missed
When St Peter opens the Pearly Gates

MOM, DAD, GRANDMA, GRANDPA, QUINCEY, PEPPER, SCOTT
Kneeling before my KING
Tears will flow as love abounds
The trumpets play and Angels sing

Until then I'll bide my time
While I wait for HIS request
Eager to return home to my family
Knowing my eternity to be blessed

Balancing Angel

What can I do for you?
How can I be your friend in need?
Tell me, if I can, I will
We can pray together, if need be

I need to ingrain these words into my soul
To make sure I never forget
Service for others should come first, yet
To serve yourself, you should never neglect

Can’t serve others, until you serve yourself
Another old saying to keep in mind
Seeking that balance between the two
Is a constant tightrope in life, I find

There’s no substitute for a smile
Or a reassuring, loving touch
All mankind needs this connection
More than ever, so, so much

Be that special, caring Angel
Begin by practicing your smile in the mirror
Being good to yourself is the first step
Before service to others can reappear

The Silent Plea

Your beauty was unmistakable
With features sure to entice
And a body to die for
The entire package so, so nice

There was only one flaw I could see
That stood apart from the rest
Was the sadness in your eyes
Revealed a tormented life, I’d guess

It was when he spoke loudly
And, I saw you flinch
His steely stare was scary
So bad you couldn’t move an inch

Your smile became weak and defensive
Your posture hunched and frail
Lost in a crowded room
Every aspect in woeful detail

I’d never felt more helpless
Though the leash was invisible to see
To avoid his angry wrath
To hear your silent plea

Lips of Stone

A photo for the century
Shot in black and white
Of a precious one year old child
Kissing a statue so innocently right

The innocence shown by my granddaughter
Made up in her colorful Easter dress
A bright Spring Day with colored eggs
A bouquet of yellow daffodils keeps it fresh

I remember being in this very photo
Only seventy years prior
Innocence lost of lips on stone
Purity the only desire

I can hear the Angels singing
As she approaches with her kiss
With lips so perfectly puckered
A loving friendship her greatest wish

Easy Living

Just as it's hard to be humble when you're the best
It can be a burden to always be right
Personally I depend on my wife for this stuff
And when I do, she says, ”not quite!”

The verse I write could be read as perverse
Which was not my intent at all
I want my work to be agreeable
As if the minister were about to call

I write the same as I live
Being honest is the way to go
I wish I had all the answers
That way, fewer excuses I need to know

I prefer to live life at ease
To have few problems to overcome
I try to run a tight ship
And, hope to until my time is gone

So, can't we all smile
And try to get along
We all live on this revolving ball
We all need to try to hum the same song

My House

It’s been a while
Since I built a house
In fact, never
Still, my pen comes close

I lay the foundation
Stone by stone
With each one in place
With each one I groan

The structure takes shape
My words become walls
The windows, the roof
Become stately and tall

People ponder
At the work I have done
They all wonder
How quickly it’s come

And, then, there it stands
As if on solid ground
My storybook cottage built
With words so profound

Barney and Clifton

Sitting here thinking
About Barney and Clifton
And all the rest of them
Yet to come

I won't know them
They won't know me
They'll live their lives as best they can
Their outlook on the future as far as they can see

That's the way I did it
I expect that's the way it's always been done
Generations come and go by the eons
I hope thay will be happy and still have time for fun

Knowledge is exploding
Getting far ahead of me
Losing ground keeping up
Lost in the dust of technology

Regardless of what I say or do
Barney and Clifton are on the way
Before I get blown into the weeds
I pray they are safe and happy along the way

Illumination

All I ever wanted in life
Was to live happy and for my kids and grandkids to do the same
Additional happiness comes in
When you see them catch your flame

They don't need you to walk beside them
They do better if they think it's their idea
I should feel lucky
If we still connect on social media

My grandkids are industrious and productive
Most own their own homes
Starting to raise their own families
Just knowing they are safe allows me to continue to roam

My prayers for them seem to be working
They seem to be doing just fine
I give “Thanks” on a daily basis
I am old now and they are in their prime

Life has been interesting
As I stay the course to learn
And, my happiness continues
Seeing my flame continuing to burn

For My Little Girl

I understand
I know you are doing your best
I'm sorry to be adding to your strain
Having you for my daughter leaves me blessed

I see the mother you've become to everyone
Each has a need to draw from you
You serve each one admirably
I love seeing you be you

I'm so old, I feel old
Not enough energy to maintain the pace
I can get tired from smiling
Keeping a mask across my face

You need space to run
Space to spread yout wings
I'll be a memory from here loving you
The gentle melody of soft guitar strings

Someday in the not too far away future
I'll be loving you from overhead
I hope you'll remember the feeling of love I have for you
Far more than all the words I've said
