What happens when your colony doesn't have a Queen... Sometimes things happen with a queen - she may not have mated properly, she may have died while mating or the colony turns on her for some reason, or who knows...

A worker bee(s) may take over the egg laying duties and this is what you will find during a hive inspection. Several eggs in each cell - these eggs are sterile and will only produce drones (male bees).

Not what us beekeepers like to see, but it does happen from time to time. Each beekeeper makes their decisions on hive management based on experience, research and the advice of trusted mentors/beekeepers.

A little relaxation time - we live in the most beautiful place - just on the others side of the mountain from Lake Tahoe - the mountains are majestic and just breathtaking. If you are ever in the area you should stop by Wally's Hot Springs and just take a moment to breathe.

Our little guy got stung by a bee yesterday and some of you know how concerned I've been since his last bee sting 2 summers ago that required a 911 call and this mama carrying an Epi Pen for him. We are thanking God for his local reaction instead of an anaphylactic shock reaction. I'll take the swollen hand over a visit to the ER anyday! 😍
