Quick info post:
Dichrolam LLC started with burls, then expanded to molded textures ("Impressed") - some without dichroic films like Dune. Then Chatoyant Carbon Fiber became an offshoot of the molded dichrolam, which birthed DichroQuilt (CCF and DQ is mostly used on high end guitars).
But the Burls have made huge advances - I've recently perfected laminations of the Burl patterns in laserable acrylic. So below is a breakdown of options one can choose from for a given application:

Raw patterned films: low cost (few cents per inch) - cut and cast in epoxy, etc.
Rubber backed films: jewelry inlay to wallcovering to in-mold-decoration, to ?
RR films: high adhesion treatments for rivertable casting
Film laminates: laserable sheet at credit card thickness / stiffness for low cost finished surface sheet laminate
Acrylic: unlimited use from knife handles to trophies/awards to jewelry.
Glass: ultimate tables, backsplashes, tiles, to restaurant partitions
