I learned an amazing secret from Rosemary at the Farmer's Wife market in Carmichael. When making fresh tomato sauce, freeze the tomatoes and peel easily after defrosting. The easiest tomato process ever!

As we begin to pull back the layers within us it becomes apparent that we are more than our current selves.

Thinking about fall in the garden...

Though the days are still fairly hot, the sun goes down earlier and the sun is less direct during the day.

Welcome to fall!

I’ve found a favorite place to stroll along the riverbank not far from my house.

Excited! Just saw the first Fritillary butterfly caterpillar on our Passion flower plant. It's their host plant that we brought a small cutting with us from the Bay area. I've seen a number of the butterflies in the yard and even had the privilege of watching one lay eggs on the plant.

One of the first things I planted after moving was sunflower seeds. They come back year after year, and last all season. A primary purpose is to attract birds. This week I saw some birds feeding on the sunflowers for the first time. Yay, success!
Amaranth, also known as Love Lies Bleeding is another self sower. It's also a beautiful flower essence to help heal a broken heart.

Went on an errand today and decided to stop to treat myself to a fresh pastry. When I was at the cafe, I realized I was just down the street from my favorite river park entrance. So, I took my chocolate croissant to go and went to the park.
Within minutes I was walking to the river, heard a hawk scree and saw it circling on the other side of the river. As I munched on my delicious pastry, I watched the geese dipping their heads in the river, while the mating dragonflies flew by and the lovely white egret flew past on its way down the river.
Every time I go to the river something is in bloom during every season so far.
I was there for all of 15 minutes and came home with my heart open and full.
