They're going to lift the quarantine on Black Ash and other Ash in Maine unless we speak up now!

Lifting the quarantine will only speed up increasing the spread of the emerald ash bore beetle that is already quickly spreading here in Maine threatening our basket ash trees. These are the very trees we make our baskets from for time millennium here in the Dawnland of Passamaquoddy and Wabanaki territory.

It's only a matter of time before we have no trees remaining to make our traditional baskets from with the availability of trees already becoming much less available then they were just a decade ago. By lifting the quarantine it will only speed up the loss in practice of the Ash basket making tradition.

You still have time to make a comment before the deadline.

K-12 educators: Did you know you can bring your students to the Colby College Museum of Art for free?

Our calendar for K-12 visits on-campus are nearly fully booked, but we still have availability for dates to visit "Mαwte: Bound Together" in our downtown gallery!

Class visits are free thanks to a generous grant from the Betterment Fund and the Linde Family Foundation. Funding is available to reimburse the complete cost of school bus transportation as well as pizza lunch.

We hope to welcome you and your students to the Colby College Museum of Art soon! Visit this link for more information: https://museum.colby.edu/learn/k-12
