"I think Burlington is really on an upswing," a prominent Church Street business said, signaling optimism following a lengthy construction project and a rough stretch for perceptions of the downtown

Planning to upgrade or just have an old bike gathering dust? ♻️🚲♻️ Bring your old bike to consign between now and Sunday, May 10th, and we'll give you a bonus 10% in-store credit when it sells! That's a 70% total payout!

31 years ago today, we opened our doors to sell used and discounted gear to the Burlington community. What started as two friends with an idea and an 800-square-foot shop on Main Street has grown into a longtime local business that has earned recognition far beyond Vermont. Along the way, we’ve helped generations of adventurers get outside with the gear they need to explore, while keeping great equipment in use and out of landfills.

Thank you to everyone who has shopped with us, supported us, and been part of our story over the last 31 years. We’re proud to keep putting our best foot forward in the shop, online, and throughout our community, and we’re excited for what’s ahead!

After a midnight wake-up, quick breakfast, and a traditional Puja ceremony, where sage was burned and everyone tossed rice into the fire to bless their climb, Marc and Mike set out under moonlight for Island Peak. Hours of steep talus, glacier travel, crevasse crossings, and fixed-line climbing led them to the 20,320-foot summit, where endless Himalayan views made every step worth it.

After rappelling down and making the long trek back to camp, the adventure still wasn’t over. They made one final push to the teahouse in Chukhung to cap off a 14-hour day they’ll never forget.

Marc and Mike’s night at Everest Base Camp (17,500 ft) marked the highest, coldest, and windiest stretch of their journey, where even simple movements felt taxing at altitude and early morning katabatic winds made for little sleep. By morning, the scale of the temporary camp, built and maintained by Sherpa teams, came into focus, set beneath a breathtaking amphitheater of towering peaks like Nuptse, Lhotse, and Pumori.

After a slower day of coffee, a hearty breakfast, and mountaineering skills practice, they soaked in one final evening before beginning the long descent, stopping at the iconic EBC rock and passing porters carrying loads significantly heavier than those of trekkers, yet moving faster thanks to their experience and acclimatization, before continuing down valley toward Dingboche, where thicker air and proper beds offered a well-earned recovery.
