I can’t currently find a ton of things (stuff is still packed) but I continue to be grateful.
It wouldn’t be a good Star Wars day without a good R2 photo.

Feisty, Smart, Loyal, Caring, Innovative.

A great character.

Praying that you would find someone like that in your own life.

May you be that to at least a couple of people dear to you.

I was cleaning out a ton of things and stumbled on this. I totally forgot I had this.
I don’t think Pic N Save exists anymore, but they chose a winner in Star Wars.

Truth be told, tons of people and groups over time have faded away.

Governments, politicians, churches, leaders, denominations all change. Some fade back. Some fade away. Some disappear rapidly. Some disappear overnight.

But truth stands.

Truth endures.

Sometimes early investments pay off far more than one can imagine.

Sometimes we forget the investments we make.

We may not always maximize our investments, but there are always options.

I am grateful for the beauty I have seen In the name of Christ.

I am grateful for the goodness I have seen from the name of Christ.

There is great beauty that has come out of obedience to Christ, his example of sacrificial love and those who has followed his example.

I am grateful for the grace and beauty I have experienced even in spite of the times I have not maximized the relationship or the investment.

May you experience the grace and beauty and love and hope promised.

May we not miss out on the hope and grace because of others who have faded away.

For the longest time, I confused the military holidays.

Perhaps it is because my generation, though it has seen some conflict and war, has rarely been touched by it.

Perhaps it is because we don’t really study history and repeat much of it even in our every day lives.

Perhaps it is because we strive so hard to “move forward” we forget who and what is left behind.

Perhaps we just don’t like thinking about death or loss.

But what if we focused on remembering the lives and the stories?

What if we focused on ways to honor the sacrifices made through our actions, our words and our reactions?

What if we paused to remember the “why” of sacrifice?

So many have given over generations for us to have freedoms and options and opportunities.

It also includes the freedom to disagree.

As you may spend time with family or friends or even if you are just taking a pause, I pray you would find rest, encouragement, care, at least the option of people to spend time with, and safety where you are.

If you are remembering loved ones lost, I pray peace and comfort and memories that would restore your joy.

If you are battling with all that comes with losing a loved one, I pray strength and fortitude and hope for you.

May blessings find you and yours this Memorial Day!

“God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.”
2 Samuel 22:31

So many things have happened the last several weeks.

For many of us, it probably feels like the last couple of years has been an onslaught of attacks.

It may feel overwhelming.
On our own, it probably is.
But God desires to cover the brunt of it.
God’s promises can help to protect us from negative perspectives and negative thoughts.
To choose to lean on and trust in them takes deliberate effort.
Both to carry and lift and parry and counter with a shield requires effort, training, familiarity and coordination.
I don’t think the 80+ references to shields in the Bible were accidental.

To open, read, ponder, memorize and apply Scripture all requires some self discipline, training, focus and intention.

Quiet spaces, available time, intentional time set aside, a lack of distractions and people/groups who encourage all help me.

What are some things that helps you to do that?

I loved watching this episode so much.
I needed to pause and ponder much of the wonder behind it.

This, like many other other stories in the last decade are layered upon layer.
The thought and depth of it from character to concepts to Easter eggs are so beautiful and wondrous.

Scripture is very much like that as one may look at how the Ild and New Testaments intersect.

I often feel heaven will host much of the same when we see life upon life and how God connects them all.

I’ll write more on this in the future. For now, I want to ponder episode 1 a little more and then devour episode 2

My very first Superhero costume was one I got and wore in kindergarten. My parents got me a SpiderMan costume. It was one of the old school ones with the plastic masks with the rubber band that held it on to your head. There were many things I resonated a lot with the character of Peter Parker. At first, he was just an average guy who was not really athletic. It wasn’t until something changed inside him that things started to change outside.

Christ did that for me. I am still ever learning what that means.

Changes sometimes can be a little awkward, but the possibilities are Awesome. If you haven’t explored the possibilities God offers or you no one ever talked to you about all the possibilities, I’d love to explore some of them with you or at least point you to a ton of options.

BlackWidow

I can’t remember if it was in a co op with Captain America or Daredevil or Spider-Man, but I was always captivated by her character.

Two things stuck out to me.
- She battled with her past in trying to make up for previous choices.
- She was a beast in her self discipline.

Regardless of the timeline, Black Widow’s character is one that puts lots of emphasis on how much she has developed herself. In the one where she gets a type of super serum, it just enhances all she is and brings out her best.

26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

I think about self discipline.
Honestly, I think the thought of it is far easier than actually doing it.

The workout regiment that those who play Marvel/DC superheroes are kinda crazy. Their time schedule is also kind of intense.

On a spiritual level, what would it look like if Christ followers would put that kind of effort, thought and self discipline in walking with God? Spending time with God? Developing Christlike characteristics? Caring for others? Staying focused?

On a personal level, I resonate with Black Widow trying to leave a part of her past behind her.
Even as a superhero, there are days and times her actions and reactions don’t always match up, but she keeps pressing on.

Even if you have fallen.
Even as you struggle.
Press on.
Don’t give up.

You were designed for something amazing.

You can allow Christ to bring out the very best in you so you can do far bigger, better and far beyond anything you could imagine.

I thought of all the things I loved about these comic book mother/mother figures.

Over time, there have been more.
This Mother’s Day, I discovered a new one.

Brina Samantha Travis

Wife Mother Protector as notes her.

Each of these characters give and sacrifice. Thoughtful, wise, fighters in their own right.

Mothers do that.

They often do and go where no one else will.

Jesus’ mother watched him die at the door of the cross.

Often we forget what mothers go through, all they have given or sacrificed.

Jesus sets the pace, even at the end, he raises the bar as he looks to another and sets up care for his mother before he passes.

What are some things I love about my mom?
When was the last time I told her?
What are some things I could do to bless or encourage her?

For all the moms, stepmoms, mother in laws, grandmothers, expecting mothers, and grieving mothers, thanks for all you do.

May you feel loved, cherished, supported.

May all those things come to you in abundance this year.

May you find hope and joy and peace in the unexpected.

May you know you are appreciated and loved.

Wolverine

There are lots of things I really like and appreciate about Wolverine.
Not thing I have been intrigued by is how old he is. With all the various timelines I have a difficult time keeping track but he is one of those who have been around for generations.

To live that long I would feel would be
Lonely
So many loved ones would pass away before you.

Weighty
Important things aren’t obvious to many until later in life.

Overwhelming
So much information. So many memories.

Exhausting
Repeating cycles after cycles when many others may only experience it once.

Frustrating
Sacrificing for other who might not understand or appreciate, possibly never.

The first thought of eternity might seem like that. But God’s promise of eternity includes others who share that.

We love good stories. We can stream and binge shows for great periods of times. We love rewatching things to see the things we missed, the connections that were not obvious until the end of the movie.

I think heaven will include times where people would see and share their stories. The beauty of them and the wonder of the connections will be fascinating.

You may be in something that feels like it won’t ever end. It may be tough to see the hope or the possibilities but hang tight.

One of my first favorites was Star Wars.
My parents took me.
I always have had strong “feels” with this series.
I resonate with many of the characters.
Luke was a favorite as the kid that was kinda dorky but developed a ton.
In the midst of a proud mistake he took a loss but he put his friends first.
Han, Lea, Chewbacca, Wicket, Anakin, ObiWan, R2D2, BB8, Mara Jade, Parmesan, Rey, Rex, and Yoda are just a handful.

Ashoka is an incredibly complex character that grows exponentially in her abilities, her character and her capabilities.

I was blessed to have had a brief moment with at . It was a great moment.

I think it is sometimes important to remember that each character has a separate life that plays them. (Sometimes more than one.)

Each person has highs, lows, family, dreams, struggles, fears, and hopes.

They bring all of that into their characters and the process is beautiful as well as deep.

In becoming who you want to be that is also a process that takes time and effort.
Who do you want to become?
What character traits do you want to develop? What do you want to be remembered for?
