Here is my newest watercolor painting, a gift from long-distance friends to celebrate this sweet pup, Remy Linda. Thank you for trusting me with; it an honor to paint her. Each dog portrait is a new challenge and joy, and I’m proud of this one. She was full of contrasts: I wanted warmth throughout but a cool undertone on the shadow-y side; long individual hairs at her top but clouds of soft curls along her chest; a big wet tongue front and center but her eyes to remain the focus. I aimed for a soft, playful, character with a mischievous glint to her eyes.

And for the watercolor folks out there - I used burnt sienna light, French ochre, pthalo turquoise, neutral tint, potter’s pink (my new favorite color), and a dash of imperial purple & ultramarine blue for her nose.

A small but mighty commissioned watercolor of Maroon Bells in Colorado’s Elk Mountains, which formed the background for a custom wedding invitation. It was a joy to make this reflection, which I painted by turning the paper upside down and blurring my eyes. It’s one thing to paint a mountain - another to paint the same one upside down and reversed. (I got the hang of it, on my third try!) The painting is only 10 inches across, so I had to render each little detail with more accuracy and intention than my larger pieces. There’s an immediacy and focus that these smaller paintings deliver, which I love.

If you’d like a commissioned landscape for a wedding invitation, I’m here for it 👋🏻, would be an honor.

“Glimpse of Dawn” in watercolor, now hanging at Massachusetts General Hospital’s Cancer Center along with twenty other of my watercolor paintings. It is an honor to share my work with the patients and their families who will pass through center. More on the show, and what it means to be a part of it, shortly.

This is one of my favorite paintings from my 20 piece series of dream-tinged landscapes I created in the Fall. There was no reference photo for this - I imagined it entirely, But I only settled on the overall structure after I painted the first foreground. Then, I decided to create multiple weather and light patterns in one cohesive environment. There’s a tension in this piece between the foreground darkness (did it just rain? Is the viewer wet and preparing for night fall?) and the distant, glowing horizon. A flash of beauty after a storm, and before the valley falls dark.

It’s quite large, at 36 inches wide, and mounted ready to hang on cradle board. It’s special not to have it behind glass. Available for sale at $1250.

“Gentle Giants”, a painting in watercolor of an imagined, timeless land. I painted it after a long day, when I was about to go home… and instead had a sense I needed to create a deep, saturated amethyst horizon. It came quickly and intuitively, and was a joy to create.

It’s 24 x 18 inches, mounted on cradle board, so it’s ready to be hung. Available for $475.

Inky and icy, inviting and solitary, tranquil but fleeting. My watercolor painting is of an imagined place, but it feels real. I carved the mountains out of paint without a clear plan in advance - forming then intuitively as negative spaces that remained from a puddle of wet dark purple brush strokes above them.

It’s is in my “Solstice” series, the first of which was inspired by the photographer
This particular painting is sold (thank you, Holly!). But I have prints available and will continue to create more work in this series.
